Question
I had my first of the 6 nerve blocks that I have to go thru for the next 6 weeks yesterday. Today I'm am in a whole lot of pain. I can barely get my fingers on my right hand to function. I can barely pick anything up. Is this normal? This is my first time of going thru nerve blocks ever. I don't know if I should call the doctor or not. Also I was wondering if one of the side effects of them is sleep walking? My hubby told me I was doing a bit of it last night. There is one incident I'm not sure if I was dreaming or what. But I coulda sworn I semi woke up to me standing in the kitchen went to the bathroom then went back to bed.

I wonder did you have any relief from block right after? And did worse pain come after block wore off? Sometimes that happens until you have had a series of them if they are going to work. Call your doc though they can put you at ease or help you with that. When I had blocks....a total of 29 they helped me within 20 minues of block swelling would even start to come down. Try not to get to discouraged by your outcome. Sometimes they add steroid at other times. The docs that do them also use them diagnostically so they start with no steroid just numbing agent. As for dreams or sleepwalking i never had a problem with that. I did however sleep 18 hrs or so do to the fact my pain had diminished. Very sound sleep. I'm hoping you do well with the blocks as they were so helpful to me. Don't be afraid to ask questions of them either they prefer so everyone is well informed. Take care & good luck |

Yeah I had almost instant relief after the shot. I felt like my old self after it really kicked in. But I also had to go thru more OT right after. This PM is trying to aggressively attack this so hopefully can get it stopped. The shot was administered in my right arm pit. I am having trouble moving my arm at the shoulder now as well. I've been trying to do the things the OT suggested I do, but can only do part of them. As far as them putting steroids in them they can't. I go into an anaphylactic shock from steroids, happens anywhere from immediately after the shot or pills to 2 days after. The doctor does know this. Anyway, I have to get off here. My pain comes and goes about every hour or so. The only thing that is constant is the shoulder problem. I figured I would call the doctor tomorrow if this still continues. Thank you for responding, I was kinda freaking out. Couldn't sit stand nothing everything was killing me.

i had this happen in the begging of my rsd with the first round of nerve block but i had beir blocks which are not used very much at all. but this happend alsoi was told that they could of hit a nerve by another doctor .
that is alot of blocks tho maybe you should just call no harm in that at all. hope you are feeling alittle better carrie |
I had the 29 SGBs over the course of 16 months. I started out with series but never got more than 2 weeks relief...i considered this a blessing compared to time without them. 2 of the 29 were radio freq. blocks and i got 2.5 to three weeks out of it. I had a trigger of 3 defined nerve damages from dog bite/inf. So they were trying to keep my rsd stable and go into remission. The only thing that got me close to remission was the surgery to repair 2 and decompress 1. I had good response to the nerve blocks although my doc was ready to try something new. They don't have to add steroid to get the good results. It can help with swelling. But if you get the pain under control you can work better with the swelling with OT. I always went to OT within an hr of my blocks. I had a dr with a strict regimen. The PT/OT is important when you are pain free or nearly pain after blocks. Every case is diferent and I wish you positive results. Most people don't need as many as I had.
I hope you get more restful sleep. Take care everyone |
