Nausea a SX of MS???

I just finished a two week course of antibiotics, which of course messed up my stomach (something that never happened before my dx). And the nausea didn't come on for a short time after taking the meds, it came and went at all times of the day and night. I'm five days off the meds, and the nausea continues.

Before anyone asks--I'm not pregnant (tubes tied 27 years ago), and perimenopausal for the past 8 years.

I haven't seen this mentioned before that I recall, but I figure MS can do pretty much what ever it wants sensation-wise, right? Why can't it make me feel nauseous for no apparent reason?

If it is MS, should I think about IVSM?

It could still be the antibiotic. Sometimes they mess with the natural bacteria in our bodies and disrupts the system. I think a call into the doctor is the best step right now.

Catch, I don't know... but I've had nausea randomly appear twice in the past couple months and last about 24 hours before disappearing as quickly as onset.

For a few months before and probably a year and a half after I was diagnosed, I was having random episodes of nausea. No vertigo involved with it, but I'd usually be sitting there, minding my own business and eating, and all of a sudden I would have this serious urge to vomit.

Usually I would just sit there and wait for the feeling to pass. I never actually had to throw up, but there were times that I really wanted to. It would sometimes happen every day for a few weeks, sometimes I'd go a few weeks without feeling nauseous.

It still happens sometimes, but not as often as it used to.

If it's any help at all, I am going through the same thing with the antibiotics and the nausea!

In my case, I just had surgery and I KNOW it's the antibiotics!

 to you and feel better soon! If I find something that works, Ill pass it along!

Unfortunately nausea can be a MS sx.

But from what you are describing, I'd bet on the antibiotics. Call the doc. You might need some good bacteria in your system - eat yogurt with live cultures.

Good Luck.

I agree with the others.

MS can stir up all types of gastric upsets, but with your history of recent antibiotics.... that seems to be the most likely cause.

Contact your doctor and let him/her know what's going on.

In the early days of Copaxone, and Betaseron I had this low level humm of nausea. not bad, not wretching, just this humm that followed me through my day. it was upsetting. it took about six months, but it did go away.

many things can cause nausea, from meds, to stress, to exposure to chemicals. If your nausea is severe, meaning it is interferring with the ability to live your day to day life, you need intervention. If its just this low level hum, give it a bit and see if it backs off.

Because MS is a neurological disease, and the brain controls everything, I tend to believe that anything CAN be a symptom of MS.

Doesn't mean it is, this time, but, it could be.

I dread having to take antibiotics..They affect the immune system, which my body is very touchy about. It takes me a few days to recuperate from the meds. Steroids, while helping with my MS symptoms, make me sick to my stomach, too..Kind of a lose/lose situation..Maybe it's the residual affect of the antibiotics (the yogurt suggestion is a very good one), maybe it's MS..Mention it to your doctor if it lasts more than a few days. There is help for it if it's too bad. Best of luck!
