Cidp

Need an explanation - what is the different between - SFSN and CIDP? can SFSN turned into CIDP? IF yes - after how long?

I'm going to see a new neurologist tomorrow. Up until now I was DX (after 2.5 years) with idiopatic SFSN. Lately - I have new burning pains in my legs, especially - in the right one. I'm afraid of new DX.
What kind of tests do I have to have in order to DX as CIDP?

Please, need your help. Be nice, don't frighten me...

CIDP is a neuropathy of the 'bigger' nerves, or how do you call that in English  SFN is a damage of the small nerves, that's the difference. But I understand your confusion, I first also thought that I had CIDP, before I knew about SFN.

Yes CIDP does affect those...

'bigger nerves' and it can be serious at times.
As for neuropathies? Please take a close look at the chart in this article [as well as the article itself]:

As for CIDP? I seriously doubt that you have it at this time?
Ooops! My key web site seems to have evaporated...as these things tend to do? Sigh. Will search for others....
Some main differences are a loss of reflexes in the feet, and legs and often in the hands and arms. The nerve conduction studies will show little or VERY much slowed reactions in the tests. Balance really goes out the window and a whole slew of other issues. I speak from experience and believe me, you do not WANT to get diagnosed with CIDP! Small fiber neuropathy is bad enuf? But mulitply it by 10? As it can affect swallowing, vision, hearing, heart ,digestive and breathing.
All I can say is that ANY neuro disease is bad! Read all over these boards and you will find others with pain who deal with it all and get by. We have to have heart and mind active when dealing with and through the pain.
My heart is with you and keep asking questions... You will find out what's going on and likely soon. What can be done for it tho? That these days, is somewhat limited. Tradeoffs between pain relief and functioning are always present in these circumstances. Hope always -'s - j
