Has anyone...

I have been put on methedone to knock down my pain, I have been on it for 6 years and I am wondering if anyone out there have been perscribed it and if it worked?? :confused:

My pain doctor says methadone is designed to work with neurological pain and has a lesser lag time then any other pain medication.

Ash, I just tried Methadone. I was told the same thing. That it worked well on neurological pain. It did not work for me at all. My pain was horrible. I don't know if my dosage was too low or what but my doctor diidn't want to go any higher. It ws considered moderate by my psyciatrist. But it was awful. Now I am trying something else. I just started last week. ANd its not going very well either. I may end up back where I started soon. Good luck to you.

i was on it like......... 4 years ago maybe... when my doc thought me taking ms cotin wasn't the right route for me (docs in cali put me on ms cotin at the beginning of my dx while i was in intense pt)... i never got relief from the methadone tho, so i quickly changed.

Hi there;

I was a little confused by your posting - have you been on methadone for six years, or has the dr just prescribed it? I have been on methadone for my RSD nerve pain in leg for almost 10 months. I take it along with oxycodone and Lyrica. It does help. I have tried just the oxy, alone - was not getting the relief I needed. The combination of the two works for me. I started taking the Lyrica because I was having pain that was different from the pain I had in my knee. This seemed to help that. I am worried about being on these for so long. But my pain management dr has explained that if I cannot get my pain level down, I will not be able to do pt to regain the movement in my knee - and since it does work - not to keep worrying about being on the meds - just another anxiety I don't need. I am on a fairly low dosage and monitored by the pain clinic. I do realize when I go to quit taking these drugs, I will have side effects - but I can't worry about down the road - just trying to think and live for the day.

Sorry for the confusion. I am curious who tried methadone. I been on it for a long time and doctors want to keep me on it. I tried other other pain meds and they just never worked. Its like when I had surgery end of January the stopped my methadone and put me on a high lvl pain killer and it just couldnt dull my nerve pain like the methadone and after 5 days I wen back on the methadone.

Hi,

I was on Methadone for over 5 years and still keep it around for my worst days. I was able to get off of everything about 5 months ago.

I tried everything going and the side effects were just too much for me. When we found that I could take Methadone with very little problems my Dr. was on Cloud 9. He thought we'd never find anything that I could take or that would help the pain.

I was able to stay on a lower dosage. I took 2 1/2 mgs. Every once in awhile I had to take 5mg's but I most stayed with the low dosage.

I know everyone can't take it, but I carry some in my purse and have it at home and it does knock the pain for me.

Welcome to the group.

Ada

Welcome

Welcome,
I don't have any experience with methadone, but I just wanted to say "Hi" and welcome you, here.
