Brain Aneurysm post op 5 weeks
 

Since my surgeon has gone on a convention, I will not be able to go back for a follow up until March 23. My question here is, I was told, after the 23 staples came out, no lifting over 5 lbs, no vacuuming, only light housework. Now since no one else can release me, I am still in this mode for 2 more weeks. Does this sound normal to any of you? My husband says, look, you survived, be grateful, and do what they say. I am allowed light housework and walking, which admittedly does wear me out after about 2 hours.

I don't know about aneurysms in particular, but as an RN I remember that almost every operation (unless it was minor surgery) had an expected recovery period of 4-6 weeks. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

If you've been told to expect a recovery period of around 4 weeks, then that sounds about right.

If you are really concerned, maybe you could contact the secretary of another surgeon who does the same operation and ask him/her the hypothetical question. They may not answer, but it's worth a try.

I forgot to mention that the surgery was January 27, so I will be almost 8 weeks post op visit, no one will change the restriction, also no driving

I was just wondering why the doctors (and/or you) opted for the clipping rather than coiling for the 5mm. Was it the shape or location?
Either way, I hope your recovery is going well. Take advantage of the "no housekeeping" rule and get some rest! :)

Your restrictions sound perfectly normal to me, and also your body is telling you that you are ready to rest after a couple hours of light activity, so go with it and don't feel guilty for those afternoon naps you may slip in, you need the rest to heal. This annie was a middle cerebral bi-lobe in an odd shape, I had the coiling done last July for the larger one, but this ones shape and location made it impossible to coil. The surgeon that did the coiling told us that if she could, she would have coiled the 2nd one at the same time, but she couldn't. Thats why it had to be clipped.
