Where is the guitar?

My son was here from Rhoade Island over Christmas. One of the things we got him was a fender guitar for around $100. As space was limited for him to take the guitar with him, we decided on shipping it to him. My husband took it to the USPS. He didn't purchase insurance and sent it parcel post.
Now, after a month has gone by, the guitar has not arrived. We've tried tracking and no one has an answer. So far we've called the USPS where it was mailed from. Nobody knows anything....
My husband feels bad and said he wouldn't send anything else ever this way.
GOOD!
Has anyone had a similar experience as this.?
Blessings, Doodle bug7

have you asked USPS to put a "trace" on it

I ship USPS all the time in my business and very few packages ever lost...those few that were have always been found once I went and filled out the forms for a trace.

even without insurance they still have an obligation. did your husband keep his mailing receipt? that would be essential in finding it or getting at least some reimbursement if it is truly "lost"

 hope they find it....

We mailed a zillion things and only had 2 go missing - in the same week! But we shipped them all *insured*. Still that did not help at all in finding them, nor did the PO ever pay up.

Good thing they were not really expensive itmes.

Then we had a crazy mix up when ds moved out. Even though his name is not the same as his dad's, they sent our mail to ds and his mail to us. And ds moved several times, so all of our mail was all over the state - UGH!

I finally got so mad I sent an email to usps's website and reamed them a new one.

Took them a couple months to get that fixed.

If I were you, I would go to that website and report your loss. Not like they'll find or replace your guitar, but someone should hear about that. Good luck.

Tracking doesn't help

We have called our nearest post office where we shipped from and they have no
answers for us right now but check back on Monday. My son has gone to his post office in Rhode Island twice now and they say "Don't know". We have a conformation slip with all our tracking numbers and have given it to USPS on line and also by telephone. On the phone it is automated and I felt like yelling
Why can't you help me track this guitar? I wan't to kick the crap out of you!!!!
It will say that the tracking is updated every evening so check back then. I am told that the tracking is not available at this time. WHAT????
We sent this guitar on Feb.19th. We we're very patient the first two weeks and even gave it another week, then but this is rediculous.(sp)
I want to thank you guys for your input. Blessings, Doodle bug7
I thought that tracking is the route that is goes so it wouldn't be difficult.

Ummmm?

Soo, you have the tracking #'s, have you gone on-line to see where it's been, and then where it stopped being tracked? I am always amazed how they keep tabs on all this stuff! ALL OF IT.
Hope this helps! - j

honestly the best way to get what they call a "trace" on the tracking is to take your receipt with the number on it direct to your local PO and fill out the form requesting a trace

I was shocked to learn the PO phone number is "outsourced" ;) and have learned that doing things thru the central number or website often can drag on an on and on:rolleyes:

once you fill out the form (which being it is a month already falls within their "trace" time limits) then they are obliged to track it's movement, which they can..as dahlek mentioned, it gets scanned along the way and that shows when one does the trace so its whole journey till it fell off their radar can be tracked
They found one of my customer's packages in one of the depots on a shelf once. It had been missing almost 6 weeks:)
dont give up! but do go there in person with the receipt and you may be surprised at how quickly it could be found!

Every time I try to track and confirm, the only thing they say is that it was accepted at Arma postoffice on Feb.19. That is it. I am so frustrated because it should not be like
this. Thank you, Dbug7

only the post office can do the full track and they are obliged to do it once you fill out that trace form

the website often isnt correctly in sync with tracking I have found

Lots of those ppl at the USPS don't really know several things that they should, I guess. They 'put their pants on one leg at a time' too. They're just '9-5' workers like many ppl.

My dad is in a rehabilitation place cuz he recently had an opperation. Thus beforehand he put a hold on his mail. After awhile he wanted me or my DB to pick it up & take it to him. They said they can only give it to him or the one he had said could do so. (He didn't name anyone. to pick it up) At 1st I was upset that he couldn't receive it (what would he do about bills?)but then I was rather upset that my DB was able to get it, when he was not supposed to, according to law.
