Out of breath

Hey everyone,

I'm experiencing an extreme out of breath problem .... I'm out of shape, but not THAT out of shape ... maybe 15 to 20 pounds heavier than ideal. Even if I go up two or three stairs sometimes, I'm out of breath. My brother, sister-in-law and four nieces went to a water park after Christmas and I about keeled over walking up those highrise water slides. That bothered me, but it's the little, every day stuff that I do that's bothering me the most.

Background info: My mother died of an aneurism when I was 15 (1976) and that's always been in the back of my mind.

My question to you is what type of doctor do I need to see and what type of tests would they run?

I'm currently in Chicago, going through a nasty divorce, so I don't have access to my regular doctors back in Texas.

Thanks ...
Terri

sorry

:(Sorry to hear of your divorce. That is got to be the biggest stressor in life that there is.
I would go to a general practicioner because they would be able to direct you to the proper specialist. Or they would be able to diagnse the problem themselves. Alot is also dependent on your health insurance. I think some insurances require a gate keeper physician. One central doctor who refers you to different specialists as necessary. Sorry you're not feeling well, that out of breath stuff must be pretty scarey.

hmmmmmmmm

I have been out of breath too, its very frustrating I cant walk very far at all before I am out of breath and gasping for air. My neuroligist told me to go to my primary care doctor. So after putting it off for about 9 months I finally went. He first ordered a blood workup which came back normal. Then came the heart tests, ekg, stress test, etc. all came back normal. Tomorrow I go in for breathing tests. My stress level has went up since all this started. I will let you know about the breathing tests. Good Luck......

tomorrow? - just getting thru today

Proudest mama,

Start with primary care and you may need a cardiologist. i am the same way but don't exercise enough. I also seem to have pd on the inside now to a large degree...the internal tremor showed up a lot on the ekg i had for a physical last week, along with some irregular heartbeats i feel the trembling inside my neck. Next is a sonogram of the heart. i have chest pressure on a nightly basis but, again, need to exercise. it could be anything from acid reflux to chest dystonia, to a heart attack in the making. i used my exercise bike today..but it's not a given [just got another one] i can't breath, but somehow i must exercise vigorously.

i quit azilect but i'm brain fogged without it. i felt that it could be giving me the chest problem and perhaps the irregular heartbeats. are you taking azilect?

i think i better state it at least once to get the feel of it. I have no option but to get a DBS. i am so full of sinemet that i'm rambling at night and in many ways out of control. I won't go peacefully - will have to start working on my summary of all the changes needed to improve research - but better get it before the economy collapses. geez

i don't like the future much. But i have to try and control it - not possible now. Jim, how was Okun? i live over on the east coast of florida.i wanted to get the DBS that also works on postural instability - PPN? anyone know where they are with that?

proudest mama, i am very underweight...but have the same symptoms. let's share what we find out - echo cardiagram [sp?] on the 25th. you too dbiker and anyone else.

Paula, my doctor recommended DBS too. Maybe we can share what we find.

the PPN.....

is an experiemental target. You would have to get an approval from your insurance company, which would be "problematic". it would also require an extra IPG. Figure on $50-80K to get it done.

I would see wwhat a regular bi-lateral DBS-STN would do for you. I think you will find it will help your postural instability. The closest recommendable program is at U of F, at Shands. There is a program in Orlando, but I do not have any info on it.

sounds to me....

like dystonia, most-likely of the diaphram. This is a fairly common complaint with PWPs.

Charlie: As a confirmed PD'er with Dystonia (Neuro's DX) I agree with your observation. I am out of breath after 20 yards on my walker.

Hello,
I have had SOB for over 3 yrs,,DX was Atrial Fibrillation, quite common.
However it is a concern as Dr will sometimes want one to take blood thinners to prevent blood clots. I take nattokinase a japanese herb for blood thinner and have mY blood work done to check coagulation.
I also have more of the internal type tremor, for which I use Mucuna herb. I am newly diagnosed so still checking you all for information.
My primary car Doctor was the one to DX AF after an EKG prior to PD Dx.Cardio now wants to do a chemical stress test, which I am not rushing into.
I am not on any Rx for Pd. does anaything take the leg freeze away?
Thank you
