aphasia?
My FIL fell & hit his head and broke bones in his face too. He had a very large 'knot' on the upper left side of his head & recieved 4 or 5 stitches. He has been in the hosp. since Feb 14. Today my DH was told he has aphasia. Can anyone tell me anything about aphasia?
Does it have anything to do with hearing? He was somewhat hard of hearing before but they think he is worse now (he is so bad, he can't even tell ppl if he is hearing them). After about 3 weeks he was putting his finger in his left ear & when the Dr looked, he found it was impacted with wax (I assumed they cleaned it). But I did notice that at 1st, not just his eye was black & blue because his sinus area bones were broke, it was B&B behind his ear. __________________ Lor_raine |
as far as I know, aphasia comes with a stroke to the left
hemisphere in the area called Broca's area. Was his fall a stroke? Do you know? Males have all the language forming parts of the brain on the left. Females have that left side predominance but also some right sided language ability. My husband's grandfather had a stroke and was permanently aphasic the rest of his life. (he lived about 10 yrs after that, and was very frustrated since the therapy did not work). Today they are much better with this, so there is hope still. So sorry this has happened. |
