Low Vit D levels lead to higher need for opiates:

This is a very interesting article:

Hmmm!!
Nothing was done to see if correcting the vitD levels decreased pain, tho.
I wonder if also some (or all) of the narcotics deplete vitD and make supplements necessary, or if it just is a fact that those with higher levels of pain showed a vitD deficiency?

Here is a link with a video from Australia...and what they are
doing about Vit D there...it is really interesting..so please watch it!

If you have not had testing... I'd start at 2000IU daily.
I use the NOW brand that are liquidgel caps. I think they are better absorbed.

Where you are---you have to factor in sun exposure. I seem to recall from your gardening posts that you are south of me.
So you must get more sun than I do.

This winter I upped to 4000IU because last winter the 2000IU seemed okay, but not terrific. I still had to use my light visor for SAD. This year I only used the light visor in the fall, and not at all after January! I will stop the D when I start to tan up.
I don't take any D in the summers. I am outside for many hours.

My pain levels have been much better this winter, and my SAD almost non-existant.
I have not been tested, I confess.
I based my doses on my feelings in the summer, vs the winter.
Since I have become older, I really can feel this difference now.

I am having Jim tested in April. His doc wants me to back up my information so this seems like a good start. Mayo seems to be a pretty good start even though he's a New England Journal guy! lol

More studies can be found at

http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/

As time has passed, more information is coming to light.
(with most fads, this information flow typically dwindles).

I have been a bit skeptical myself, that is why I went up in dose
over 3 yrs. 1000IU first winter, 2000IU last winter, 4000IU this winter.

I am very interested in the Australian video. The truth of the matter is that skin cancer is HIGHER in people using sunscreens.
They changed the ingredients with no improvement over the years. If Vit D is added, and this would have to be done carefully, to avoid toxicities, and can reverse this, then millions will benefit who have or could have skin cancer!
