Sorry if Im rambling but...

Hello,

So, I havent been diagnosed as bipolar, but, I have always considered my self bipolar and many people have told to me I look like a bipolar person...

I suffer of depression that comes and go and sometimes I feel "very happy". My parents look at me like a strange creature because when Im sad, Im SAD and when Im happy, Im HAPPY.
I had always read about mania and never fell into that category, but, just today, I was reading in this forum about Hypomia (Thanks Bizi by the way for all that stuff !!!) and I think that's exactly how I feel...

My question would be this one: Do you think that all of us, every single person in the planet are "a little bipolar" ? Do you think that is possible ?

I mean, I cant clearly distinguish between being bipolar and being a normal person that today feels sad and tomorrow feels better and happy...

Also, do you think it is possible to live being bipolar without being diagnosed and without taking medicine ? I mean, I take meds for depression, but that's it. Do you think I should simply enjoy those days when I feel happy without thinking oh gosh, Im a hypomaniac state ??

Dont know. I feel just confused.

Thanks for reading.

Hi,
If the meds you take for depression are working, then I would say that you are ok. Some people go through three or four meds that don't work. Some of them can benefit from a mood stabilizer.

If your moods do not interfere with your life, then I would say that you are ok now and do not need to seek more medication. Are you able to work or go to school and have good relationships with the people around you?

I do have one question: How long have you been on the anti-depressant? Years and years? Some people can be fine on it for a little while and then blow up into anxiety or mania.

Make sure you tell the psychiatrist what you told us here so that the psychiatrist can help you be aware of what is going on -- in case you need a different medication in a hurry.

Others will chime in here I think and make more sense than what I am saying.

Well yes, I go to university every day... Some days are horrible, some are good... And, even when people tend to say Im weird, I do have a group of "friends"...

Dear BlueMajo,
If you are concerned, see a psychiatrist.
It is possible that you will be fine with the mdoc giving you anti-depressants.

It is also possible (not likely, but possible) that someone in your situation could have a problem and have the problem compounded because the mdoc did not recognize it fast it enough or respond to it fast enough.
I'm talking about mania. Some mdocs completely mess up and ruin people's lives by not responding quickly enough when someone goes into mania caused by the meds that they are giving the patient.

If you want to be safe, get at least one appointment with a psychiatrist who specializes in mood disorders. This way you have a psychiatrist who knows you and is already on standby if something happens.

Mexico City

Dear BlueMajo,

I just looked at your info to the side of your post and see that you are in Mexico City. I don't know anything about how the medicine bureaucracy works there.
Is it possible to get a psychiatrist appointment --- at least for one assessment / evaluation appointment?

M

Hello Mari again, and thank you again for replying :)

You know what, I have always wanted to see a psychiatrist... since I was like 15.... at that time, parents didnt want to take me... But now Im an adult and can go if I want to :)
I will actually ask my doc if he knows a good one...
I remember that someday my otorrinolaringologist told me: "everybody in this planet should visit a psychiatrist at least one time in their lives..." ha, and that's what I want to do :)

Thanks Mari. Im actually a "Mari" too as my name is Maria Jose :)

Hi Blue!

I do believe that some can have bi-polar tendencies and do not have to take medicine for it. That is just my opinion though.

Thats what I think I have been doing... :D You know, I think it is like, many, the others, dont realize Im bipolar, they just think Im "weird" or with a "nasty mood", but me, I know that I have mood changes that I cant control but that I can manage and try to act "normal" or... yeah, whatever....

Just today, for example, I took a nap for like 5 hours, and, for everybody it was just weird, but for me, I know it was a necesity... :)

Oh, forgive me all if Im still rambling...
