Has anyone had any problems with blood pressure bottoming out. I've gotten so cold and bp so low that I've passed out cold . . . get really sick after this.
just wondered if it's me or part of the RSD |

klb
i have had this problem for years with my rsd but the difference is that for some reason i dont pass out period. i know that drinking extra water and gettin up from sitting and laying down very slowly this will also help what meds are you on also as this can cause the BP to drop also? hope that you are feeling better carrie |

Dear Angel, I really know you are very sweet and kind, but if he has a high pulse as well he is in trouble. Hugs, Roz |
there is acutally a clinical study being done right now about how rsd effects the sympathic systen including BP HR etc... i know that there is alot of us with this same problem and meds do make this worse. but the passing out is a problem and i think klb that you should give your doctor a call as there could be something else goin on. i know that there was a thread about not blaming rsd for everything and this is a good cause for getting it checked out ....

Do you have a blood pressure cuff to log these episodes?
Another cause of fainting is A-fib in the heart. This is a very serious cause of fainting and can cause a stroke. So it is critical that you see a doctor and have tests run. You may have wear a monitor for a period of time to catch the episodes for diagnosis. Some blood pressure drugs are used to treat RSD..calcium channel blockers ...if you are taking one of these, you may be having low blood pressure. Clonidine (for pain) and Zanaflex (muscle relaxant) also lower blood pressure. Please see your doctor ASAP. |
I too have had the low BP 60/30 with High heart rate 140+... happened in my doctor's office way more than once.... they ran all kinds of tests and still couldn't tell me why this was happening. The Physiatrist had me hooked up to machines immediately and all he could atribute it to is... RSD. Also happened in the PM doc office....he said it was happening because my pain levels were through the roof and it was the RSD's fault.
I have even had this happen while laying down... and passed out more than once.... yes...at the doctor's office too. |
another culprit: Potassium
low potassium levels will also cause weakness and fainting:
Here is a good article on potassium: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/low_p...m/page3_em.htm People with chronic pain may not eat properly, and we need 4.5 grams of potassium daily. There are some hereditary (genetic) errors that will also lead to low potassium. Some drugs will lower potassium, and so will chronic diarrhea. |
Thank you
Thank you for your replies and concern. I do have a bp cuff and do monitor both pulse and bp. One of my physicians is aware of this problem and I have an appointment on Monday with another.
I have only been symptomatic once while experiencing the low blood pressure. I guess I just wondered if this had something to do with autonomic nervous system involvement associated with RSD, and wanted to go to the appointment armed with some info from others who have same dx. I do keep well hydrated most of the time and don't really make any quick moves anymore. The weird thing about this particular episode is that there were none of those hypotensive warning signs. I will keep in mind involvement independent of RSD. Thank you again.:grouphug: |
