RSD and a broken toe...need help!!!!!

I was diagnosed with RSD 8 years ago and have been living with it since then. I was lucky enough to have Dr. Philip Getson as my physician, but he has recently stopped accepting my insurance. I do not know who to go to see, but I need a new doctor fast!!!! This morning, I broke my toe (on my affected leg!) and now my foot is (literally) killing me. I can hardly walk! The toe itself is, surprisingly, not too bad. Black and blue and a little swollen, but all in all okay. Does anyone live in the South Jersey area who can recommend a great RSD doctor???? I am desperate!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation with the physician. I live in Pennsylvania and have been waiting for over a year to be able to go to Philly to see Dr. Swartzman. The regular physician I see has been learning about RSD with me. I've found some rather interesting information on the net about the subject. And I have found if I go to my Dr. with said information. They are more than willing to learn and listen to me. I've been very fortunate in that respect. Perhaps a medical referral service would help. I hope you feel better soon. I know it's not fun. Soft hugs

injilalu....sorry if I spelled wrong. Brain fuzz. I also broke my toe the middle one on the left on January 2nd or 3rd can't remember exact. My dr tells me it is the normal healing. Why is it purple and red still and feel like a million bees are stinging it while an alligator is ripping of the skin I ask myself? My PCP is very conservative and I am doing everything to keep it where it is paraffin baths, epsom salts, comfortably warm as it is going icy on me. 3 months and not getting better but I am paying close attention if it moves closer to the rest of my foot I am running to my PMD. Try all the tricks you did with your rsd originally. It may help but I would have a PM doc lined up for you just for safety sake and peace of mind..................I am not panicking yet but close.XXXXXXDebbie

I'd start with a good podiatrist. Did you stub it? Or drop something on it? How do you know it is broken? Did you have it Xrayed?

If you did all that, then finding a new RSD/pain person makes sense. But if you did not get it xrayed, you should. Some stubs shove the bone into the metatarsal joint, and if not fixed quickly, can ruin your foot, as it heals wrongly. This happened to my neighbor while she was vacuuming...it turned into a huge mess for her, from an apparent simple injury that wasn't simple.

I was working on a rock wall a few years ago, and a huge boulder rolled out unexpectedly onto my foot...broke my big toe in
2 places. I went to a podiatrist the next day, and he gave me a special shoe to wear. It turned black and blue too.

OMG. I hope your former doctor will still be able to help you. I agree with mrsD, how are you *so* sure you broke it? Has it been x-rayed yet?

Let us know what happens.
