Parkinson's Fund raising round the world cycle record
 

A student doing unpaid voluntary work for the last 2 years, at King's College London, is attempting to break the above record, and raise £1.8m for PD research.
James bowthorpe is 5 days into his ride, through Europe, Iran, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. You can follow his progress on

James has done voluntary work in Bosnia, and has cycled from Alaska to Los Angeles for charity. He plans to become a doctor.

Round the World Cycle Record for PD Research.
 

I do voluntary work for a key research college in the UK for Parkinson's research, Kings College Hospital in London. I do their literature searches, even interview candidates for them, and fundraise.
Another volunteer on the team is a 31 year old called James Bowthorpe, who is currently cycling round the world to raise funds for PD research at the hospital. He is currently in Istanbul, Turkey, then he goes through Iran, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada!!!! A total of 18,000 miles. This will take him 5 months. He has to be back for September to start a doctors degree, so any help in pulling in funds would be most appreciated, eg do you know anyone or company that would sponsor him? He is doing this for us. He is totally alone, no support vehicle, he has to start and finish with the same bike or the record does not count. So he has to sleep and protect his bike and many currencies from theft. He needs 6,000 calories per day to power him round the world. James has spent the last 2 years doing (unpaid) voluntary work for the Parkinson's research team at Kings College. His granddad had PD.

Round The World Cucle Record (Fundraising)
 

Updating this one, since James has covered Europe and Asia and has crossed Australia from West to East. He did Australia the hard way, hugging the south coast all the way. He is over halfway round the globe now in 105 days, cycling over 9,000 miles. He is currently in New Zealand, and will then fly to Vancouver, and will then cycle down to San Francisco along the Pacific coast. You can see his future route on

He will then turn east on the Western Express to Pueblo where James will join the Trans American trail to Richmond and then up to New York.
You can follow his progress on the whereintheworldisjames site on the earlier post. The milage of flying from Aystralia to New Zealand has yet to be subtracted from the total milage.
If he is passing anywhere near your area, he would appreciate a welcome to spur him on. A disappointment is the donations are not keeping pace with his fast pace, reaching nearly £45,000 against a target of £1.8m.
All money raised will go to the PD research group at Kings College London, who are investigating the role of infection in PD. See

king's college very focused
 

King's College is where Susan Duty is researching what she thinks is a cellular "hotspot", I posted about this earlier this week. This place is very, very focused, and they sound like they are doing some really promising work.
