Round two

Looks like hopefully at the end of this month I'll be going back down to LA for my 2nd ketamine infusion. He also wants to do a little bit of radiofrequency ablasion. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one will last longer than the 2 months i got previously. i'm excited tho!

Andrea.....WOW that was quick (I'm sure it didn't feel quick to you). I am so happy for you and hope that this one lasts much longer than the last. I know this has been a rough road for you, but you inspire us all by your determination to keep going and not letting your pain stop you in your tracks. Best wishes to you!!!

I really wasn't expecting to have it done so quickly. But I guess my dad decided to take the money out of his 401k so i can have it done. So hopefully once it's done I can try looking for something part time that won't interefere with my disability benefits so i can pay him back. not that he's asking for it. but i mean, i've always been one that hasn't ever wanted to ask for help... i'm stubborn like that.

but ya, hopefully on the 30th i'll be undergoing another infusion. i'm sure that'll def help me out when it comes to studying for finals this semester!

Good Deal!

Andrea,
I am happy to hear that you are going to be able to have this done again. I certainly hope that you get plenty of pain relief. I also think it is great that you have the support of your family and that they can help. Good luck and I'll be thinking about you. Take care, dear. Di

Good luck with the Ketamine treatment.

You might want to look into radiofrequency ablation, because I was under the impression that it was a big no-no for RSD. I think I remember reading about it in the info provided by Dr. H. Hooshmand (I could be mistaken).

GalenaFaolan 04-07-2009 05:46 PM

CRPSbe, you would be correct.

RSD Hope also has this on one of their pages.

Quote:

By the time the sympathectomy is undertaken, the disease is usually too advanced and in late stages. The pain is mainly SIP and is expected to be non-responsive to ablation of the sympathetic ganglia. Sympathectomy aggravates the already existing sympathetic dysfunction.
Found here: http://www.rsdrx.com/CRPSABSTRACT.htm down near the bottom under REASONS FOR SYMPATHECTOMY FAILURE.

You know your pain is SIP,Sympathetically Independent Pain, when a nerve block gives you no relief from pain.

One more link: http://www.rsdinfo.com/crps_and_sympathectomy.htm

I have always been against it, because when I was in the 1st year with it someone I knew had it done and it came back worse than before, pain was more intense and she also spread full body and then some due to having it done. It's not something that should ever be done to someone with rsd. It may be very helpful for other conditions but not rsd.

Hope this info helps someone.

Hugs,

Karen

So sorry that I missed this post until now!

I really hope that the Ketamine infusion goes well for you Andrea and that you get even more pain relief than what you did in the last one and will hopefully go into remission! I'm SO glad that you can get the infusion done so soon!

Please let us know when you get the dates for the infusion and i'm thinking about you!
