Hi Kimmie...

I know this is a frightening time... facial swelling is not fun...

Please rule out any other possible issues before ruling it as RSD swelling...
(if you haven't already that is...) Could also be sinus related or dental related....

My face swells off and on but it also turns bright red and ice cold when it does this.... mine happens on one side or the other... never swells both sides at the same time.

I wish you well!!!!

Kimmie,
More info, Please?

I Absolutely KNOW that this is not a good time to ask, but, You must clarify, what it is that you're asking!

My face swells with the RSD.
Bi laterally.
Sometimes,
I call myself , fat face.

Maybe some NSAIDS? Sometimes Aspirin or Motrin works wonders on the swelling.

Call your neuro!

Remember,
RSD, is an Evil Witch of a disease!
It will play, all sorts of evil tricks! Just to throw you off!

You must be, just as wily!

I hope that you are!

Don't EVER let it get you down., EVER!

It's YOUR body!
Not the rsd's!
You must somehow, sometime, TAKE control!
F' those nerves!

Take it back!

Put up a fight!

Kimmie,
We're NOT gonna let you give up the fight!!
We love you too much!

As we age, we sometimes get stones in the salivary glands.

This can cause a swelling on the side affected. People with dry mouth from inflammation like Sjogren's or from side effects from
drugs are more prone to this. If it becomes totally blocked, surgery may be needed. My doctor recommends sucking on a sour candy a couple of times a day to stimulate saliva production. Give that a try.

Ear infections also can do this, or a throat infection that occurs only on one side. Painless swelling should always be evaluated because swollen lymph nodes with no pain could be lymphoma.

So if it persists you really should see a doctor.

Hello Kimmie,

I have full body RSD. When it is flaired in my face it turns bright red and I can't put makeup on. It looks like I have been in the sun for too long.I swell in a lot of areas but not my face. Keep in mind RSD/CRPS is diffent for all of us.
Someone mentioned about glands swelling that is really good advice. My daughter (21 years old) had some dental work done. A gland along the jaw line was irritated and she swelled one the side of her face and into her neck.
Give yourself some peace of mind and call your doctor.
It' okay to cry just don't allow yourself to stay in that mood for very long. Tell yourself RSD has taken enough from your life and don't allow it to take something you do have control of and that's your attitude. You have been fighting the fight for 15 years dust yourself off and get back in the ring.
Take care:hug:

blocked ear

Hi Kimmie,

I have CRPS type II on the right side of my body from a venipuncture nerve injury to my right arm 4 years ago. In addition to symptoms below the neck, I have symptoms on the right side of my face, neck, & head. No swelling, but occasionally redness on my right cheek. I commonly have a sensation in my right ear that does indeed feel like a "blocked ear" canal, as well as weird skin sensations all over the skin on the right side of my face & head. Also, occasional symptoms, including burning, on the right side of my upper lip, tongue, and gums.

Good luck!

Ann

Kimmie,
What does your neuro say about the swelling?

I get it in my face and my feet, sometimes in my hands.
Ice packs work, (with a towel of course), as do NSAID,s aspirin, motrin, aleve.
And, motion!
Try taking a walk. Get your blood circulating.
Sometimes Allegra helps. (allergy prescription). That's for your neuro to answer.

Sometimes, I can't get my shoes on.

I'm 52 also.

Call your neuro, and ask his/her advice!

Here for you!
BE BLESSED AND BETTER!

Pete

Dear Pete,

Be careful with the ice - because ice and RSD usually don't mix.

Sandy
