Swollen lymph node??
Hi everyone. I have "rediscovered" a swollen lymp node in my neck, below my left ear.
About a year ago I noticed that the lymph node behind my ear was swollen. I didn't pay attention to it then. But this week I have had my neuropathy symptoms exacerbated and I have been doing some reading. I came accross in the net with this article: http://content.karger.com/ProdukteDB...asp?Doi=117230 The abstract describes how some peripheral neuropathies can be caused by lymphoma. I continued searching and I found this: http://jkms.org/fulltext/pdf/jkms-19-130.pdf This article also explores the relation between peripheral neuropathy and lymphomas. After reading these articles I immediatly remember the swollen lymph node I had then discovered and it's still there, as swollen as I remember.... Is this an issue I should explore??? If so, who should I explore it with?? With my regular neuro or with another doctor?? Thank you Monica |
Painless swelling MAY be lymphoma. But it is NOT common in your age group.
But young people do get MONO, or Epstein Barr Virus. And this is often a cause of swollen lymph nodes. You may have had a mild form of this and thought you had the "flu". Also mild throat or ear infections may cause swollen lymph nodes. Most swollen lymph nodes are benign. When you get older, they become more problematic and risk of lymphoma goes up. |
hi there
It is sensible to get it checked, but don't panic, there are LOTS of causes of swollen lymph nodes. I have chronically swollen lymph nodes, I have for over 20 years and I don't have lymphoma (although I have been checked for it). Set your mind at rest, show it to a doctor and take it from there. Single swollen lymph nodes can also mean the lymph node itself is infected, so there are various possibilities. hth, and best of luck with it all Raglet |
Hi Monica,
I have had swollen lymph nodes for a couple of weeks now. Apparently I have a varicella zoster outbreak (a type of shingles). The virus appeared in my left ear and nose and I have had tons of neuropathy from it as well as swollen lymph nodes especially in the neck from teh virus and the inflamed nerves throughout that region. But never hesitate to get something checked out if you are worried. |
Thank you guys for your help. I am not very paranoid but just to make sure, I am definetely going to have it checked.
I have an appointment with my neurologist next week, I just wanted to ask you guys how should i have it checked, by a biopsy??. I have the sensation that my neuro feels I overreact over everything. I do sometimes... but I think I have valid reasons. Just in case he dismisses this, what should I ask him to order for me?? |
MOnia I will say that the antiviral treatment they gave me really helped especially the lymph nodes
