Muscle Weakness

For the past two days my left hand, arm and leg has been very weak....almost to the point of not being able to hold anything or lift my foot. I have to make an effort and concentrate on what I'm attempting to do in order to complete tasks. I've had the leg weakness before but the hand/arm weakness is new. Even typing is hard.....I don't even press hard enough on the keys with my left hand to spell correctly.

Anybody else have extreme muscle weakness? I'm familiar with numbness....my right hand/arm has been numb for close to 2 years now. This isn't like numbness, though. It's almost like it's too heavy to lift...or I don't have enough energy to lift it. It's strange.....

I dropped a saucer of cat food yesterday. Good thing the cat was out of range!! It would have landed on her head!

Totally familiar with it! My left hand has been weak since diagnosed in 07.. not only weak, but it twitches. For example, when I am putting my contacts in I use that hand to hold the contact while I rinse it... My fore finger and thumb are the worst with the twitches and I usually throw each contact in the sink at least once... lol

It's very frustrating... I can't do anything with that hand anymore. The other night my fiance and I went out to eat and I tried to use my left hand to pick up something off of my plate to eat. It went flying across the table at him. He was like, "um, do you think you could NOT use that hand in public please?" hahaha.. it was pretty funny...

I notice that happening when the weather is humid and also, if I have an infection, like a UTI or Sinus.. Weakness usually comes with weather changes though..

Check to make sure that you do not have an infection and feel better soon..

Kelly,

Yes, I have experienced what you are going through with muscle weakness. It seems like each time I have a relapse, it get worse. But thankfully, I have always regained "most" of my strength back. I do remember how frustrating it was the first time... and how difficult it was to even type. You fingers just not doing what you what them to do... dropping things like your keys, hairbrush, glass.... and having to concentrate on every little thing you try to pick up. I hope this passes quickly for you. You are in my prayers!

Yes, I've experienced this a lot. My weakness seems to be mostly in the left side of my body. I've dropped lots of stuff. On some days, just lifting my arms to wash my hair tires me for the rest of the day.

I just got back from a vacation, and we had a jacuzzi in the hotel. I knew I can't tolerate heat, but I went in it anyway. I was outta there in five minutes, and my entire body turned into jelly. I couldn't move for a few hours. I won't be getting in a jacuzzi ever again!

My allergies are acting up.....the pollen here is brutal! So my head is stuffy. No infection that I'm aware of.

I've noticed that I'm twitching or jerking when I'm almost asleep. I'll be in that stage of sleep where it could go either way...I could wake up or drift deeper into sleep but I jerk myself awake. Feels like I'm falling. Sometimes it's quite violent.....I almost sit up!! Even the cat looked at me like "will you please just get settled". :o

I know what you mean with the hot tub. I did the same thing on vacation before I realized I had MS. Got out of hot tub then had to climb a staircase to get to the bed in the loft. I didn't know what was going on. So I did it again. So many things make since after the dx.

Amen to that, Friend2U. Hindsight is everything. I booked this beautiful inn with a fireplace (?) and a jacuzzi, and I couldn't really enjoy either, though my husband did. On the other hand, I did save a ton of money on my home heating bills this winter.

Hi, I 'only' have left arm and right leg numbness at the moment. There are days when I think I'm getting weaker, but it ususally passes quickly. Oddly, I have craved hot baths recently with no adverse effects (pre dx)

When I read what is happening to you all, it makes me very sad and fearful for my own future. Not that I'm sticking my head in the sand, but I'm hoping for all I'm worth that I don't get any worse.

This sucks :(
