PAIN needs to be taken seriously and severe pain is a medical emergency. Although chronic pain isn't considered an emergent situation, there are pain issues that require immediate treatment.

Reflex sympathetic dystrophy - also called complex regional pain syndrome - is a chronic, painful and progressive neurological condition that affects the skin, muscles, joints and bones. The symptoms usually develop in an injured limb such as a broken leg or arm or following surgery. However, many cases of reflex sympathetic dystrophy involve only a minor injury such as a sprain, and in some cases no precipitating event can be identified.

Welcome, thanks for sharing the article. At least RSD/CRPS got some attention. I like your quote under your tag. "Some days all I want to be is a missing person" Look around and read some threads and enjoy.

...did you read further down the page(article) about this poor fellow?

"I think I have CRPS1 on my Private area, Since it is in a embarrassing spot I havent been to Doctor yet for 3 yrs, It turns purple and burns like a inferno and swells to 2-3 times its regular size. I believe what caused my condition was my dog had stepped /pinched my scrotum and ever since that has happened it has been extremely painful. Is there any meds that I can get without seeing a doctor for? Anyone else have this problem?".........:thud:

The article is excellent. Thanks for posting.

Hey Carrie,

I agree. It really bothers me when I see articles that say it can't spread. That view is so1912. It's like last year when my long term disability insurance company said RSD is a mental conditon and not physcial. The policy only covered mental disabilities for 2 years so they wanted to drop me. Thank God, I have a group of doctors who understand RSD. They all wrote letters for me and the company changed their way of thinking. I have filed for SSD 2 1/2 years ago I have been denied. I am waiting for a hearing date.

I had actually seen a neurologist early on for RSD who couldn't understand why I had pain in an area that wasn't injured, because it's a totally different nerve system. WHAT?!!! And she said that neurology doesn't have a good handle on this (ummm, it's a neurological disorder), and referred me to pain medicine. And this was after I had asked for a neurologist who was knowledgable about RSD. Talk about a waste of my time. Thankfully I finally ended up with a VERY knowledgable doc who WOULD treat RSD as an emergency.

yes i went thro the same problems my rsd spread early and fast in the first 5 mths my rsd went from right side of neck and arm to left arm to both legs.. and i heard it all .. "rsd cant spread and if i couldnt not that fast" so yes this article is wrong to say the least. and yes this is a neurological disorder for sure.. sometimes i have no idea what im even tryin to say and if i do manage to get it out its sure not what i wanted to say...
