Social Security: Ticket to Work program FAQS
Hi,
I ran across this so am posting it in the hope that it helps someone. These programs are part of the stimulus package that Congress recently passed. http://bestsmileys.com/money/2.gif Social Security Online: Frequently asked questions about Ticket to Work program. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/work/faqs.html About Ticket to Work http://www.socialsecurity.gov/work/aboutticket.html Quote:

I have been working under the ticket to work. Actually the office of vocational rehabilatation in our area was much more help and did not need my TTW to assist me. I never used the ticket until two years ago when I needed a laptop and adaptive software to work. Voc rehab could use my TTW to receive gov funds back, saving their funds for other items and people. I did receive a huge amount of funding when I went back to school also. I have never had a review for the three years, but did get a letter stating after reviewing my work history I did not have any chargeable quarters towards my 9 months, and I did not have any significant medical recovery, So it is not that big a deal, except I can't rule out my not having a review, or the letter I received was in lue of a review. the other thing too, if you do want to try to work, I have worked over three years and my benefits adjust every year by at least $30 to $50 a month for the part time work I am earning. In addition I can earn up to the $1000 and not worry about any chargable quarters with deductions they use to offset, and whether I had any medical improvement. I did not need the TTW to pay for any retraining. They never even asked for it until the huge investment for equipment was made. I am looking forward to the $250 though, I need tires and exhaust on the car to do this new job. di |

Dear Vowel Lady, No I don't but it seems that for some people as it has for Di, it might add to what vocational rehab can do. M. |
Dear Di,
Thanks for your helpful post. I didn't even know what Ticket to Work was until you explained it very well here. I am glad to hear that they are helping you. M. |
I'm really glad to hear someone's ticket worked for them.
My son had a ticket, but it was never usable for him. We couldn't find a group to help with his in our area. So his was a idle thing. He ended up getting his own job and doing things on his own. He didn't even have the good help from Voc rehabilation that my other son has had. Donna |

Our area voc rehab is agressive to a degree. They came to our college once a month for check in, documentations and make sure grades are right on, They helped with a lot of the cost towards classes. But, it seems they do not have a grasp of vision to what your potential is and the needs. they are restrictive to provide money unless there is a good chance that the person is going to be finding work. They pushed real hard for me to have full time job, they want to decrease the people on SSDI for full employment. That is the ultimate goal. With my dd they did not see much hope for condition to improve so they would pay for one class on flower arranging. She wanted to work from home doing weddings etc. But she never did progress to that point. I think they need to realize what ever help we get is positive effects in the long run. maybe we never get off SSDI totally or at all, should we be denied services. I needed approval for a TENS unit I had on a trial that helped so much. I got the approval and submitted the bill. The voc rehab turned it down as the bill date was the first day of the trial period and they could not bill after the trial date..... So I had to return the unit. They wanted $150 and I found the exact one for $75 on a rehab supply store, but they would not get that one either. So a lot of denials unless a doc and very specific potenial gain can be found through the items they provide. If that voc rehab would be the holder of your sons ticket to work and they were not helpful in the past, likely not helpful in the future. You are entitled to an apeal to be heard on your behalf, and even transfer a ticket to work. They are very closed minded to how far they feel the potential for a return is on providing help. On the second hand, if you are denied services from voc rehab, keep the letter for any review from SSDI as support that physical improvements have not been made to get employment based by the voc rehab denial of help. Just an observation. di |
Thanks di
I have to admit I didn't keep good records for his ticket. So I'm not sure I can find that stuff. But I am not making that mistake again. Or in other things. I learned my lesson with medicaid waiver for Derrick. Donna |
