Healing pains?

I have come across this a few times here and else where on the net, and I have always been curious. Can someone tell me more about the pains felt when nerves start to heal? What does a patient feel exactly? Of course I am no where near any of that, but it's kind of interesting to think about how the whole process works...

It has been said (altho I've not experienced it) that the pains are similar if not exactly like the pains of the disease destroying nerves.
Hard to tell the difference.
Don't know how to differentiate the two.
Its a 'time-will-tell' experience, along with faith and a good regimen of healing supplements.
If the pains lessen over time, its a winner!

In my exprience there is pain that decreases as healing takes place. Because of stress and the way it depletes B12, there may be an increase in pain at the same time that overall there is healing going on, but healing does not involve a pain all its own.

If you are having more pain, then I would say it would be good to use more methylcobalamin lozenges and keep notes to see if that effects a change for the better.

Remember, B12 replacement is a slow process, so, beginning to use methylcobalamin lozenges does not mean immediate and complete relief. However, using more makes it faster than using less.

Hi, Bob explained it perfectly, when I was going the healing process I had bouts of increased symptoms followed very slightly less severity until it flared up again, the less severity part was so little that it really was only noticable over a few months, from year to year really showed the most improvement, it was a total of 5 years to get back to normal again.

Brian :)

Without reading back through all your posts to see just what your problems where, how was it you got back to normal?

I think healing pains depend on the type of healing.

When one has numbness extensively, then when healing happens, there may be tingling/burning for a while. This happened to me with my thyroid fix.

But not all PN is numbness. It is possible for some who just have PAIN, that healing would reduce some of that. It may turn into another perceptive feeling, a lower type like tingling or itching for a while.

I think it can be a variable experience... no one rule for all.

Thanks everyone...and Brian, may I say how wonderful it is to read about your progress and your current state now. Again, just reading posts like these really boosts the old moral. :D

I always assumed and I am still clueless but as one can do more with their body that is a sign of things healing and getting better. Also my pain doc I saw this week said that if you can find the underlying why behind this then treating that can help the repair of course like people here mentioned the b12 for me I have no idea still and basically am running out of testing. Trying to hold the hope though to recover.

Daniella, I used to think when I was having a better day that maybe, just maybe healing might be starting. Then of course I will get a horrific day after that and let down sinks in. I am trying to hold out hope that I may recover as well.....even if it takes a long time, just thinking that there may be a chance that I can get so much better gets me hopeful again. I try and tell myself that it does happen, and some posters on this board are living proof. The first neurologist I saw was totally negative telling me it's basically for life and they can only treat the pain. I dumped him. He was so gloom and doom. The second neurologist told me that everyone is different, and he has had patients whose neuropathy healed and that it can happen. I guess time will tell, but all we can do is keep hoping.
