Those who deal with the V.A for there MS

Right now I am already rated 30% thru the VA. I just filed for a new claim and just had my doctor appointment where the PA asked me everything that has happened since I was diagnosed. She said she is going to put me in for 100% In the last 29 months I have had 6 major attacks and several episodes. Ive missed around 80 days of work in the last year. What do you guys think?

I am about to be on dual shoots, and am on heavy fatigue medication.

Well, sounds to me like they think it too and that's why your being re-evaluated. Jim's doctor used to do it without Jim even knwoing until he got a letter. Also, their system is different than most % systems. They rate your hands at x amount, your leg at x amount, your bladder at x amount, etc. Jim's over 100% but he only gets 100% if that makes any sense. LOL He even has brain syndrome listed at 10%. He laughs when he sees that one.

On all serious accounts, go with what you think. That is a lot of days missed at work and quite a few attacks. Maybe you should let it ride and if your get better you can try to be re-evaluated for going back to work. I think Jim stayed on voc rehab for quite awhile before he realized his ms wasn't going to get better. But some do get better. You know ms, it's different with everyone. Maybe the doctor wants you to heal up because you may be over doing it? Aren't you going to college too? Maybe it's all too much and you can focus on school for a bit while you draw your disability from the VA?

Whatever you do or they say I wish you nothing but good luck and pain free days Brandon.

My Dr. doesnt know about this as of now. The PVA told me i should do it.

Well just like Jim, Im rated at 100%, plus Special monthly compensation for loss of use of 3 or more extremeties. 30% is the standard just for a diagnosis of MS. Anytime you feel that your symptoms are getting worse and not going away, I would ask for a re-evalution. Sometimes it is done without asking, but I would not wait.

Hopefully your Dr. doesnt leave anything out on the report, then your in good shape. It can be a long battle or it may not. The VAs getting better but its still very slow most of the time. Theres alot out there that they will give you, you just have to find it because theyre not coming to you.

Good luck.

I'm sure it will be a fight, ill try to be patient but you know who likes waiting.

Ditto on 30 for me as well.

What is it with vets and MS? It's a conspiracy I tells ya'!

But seriously folks, hang in there and I hope it works in your advantage, brandon.

And thanks to the lovely Sandy. I didn't know they broke it down to 'body parts'.

LOL They do Moose. Next time you go to the VA for an appointment ask for a copy of your appointment sheet. It should have it all broke down.

Brandon, if the PVA is involved and believe in you, it should go smooth. If not, you have them to back you up. When Jim got pretty sick they made sure he got the highest amount he could get and he did. They arranged for me to be able to retire to take care of him by paying aide and attendance. I think the PVA is a great group for all vets.
