Caregiver disabled todler
 

I was wondering if anyone else has disabled young children on here. Anyone that wants to reply are welcome tho I love to meet new people.:cool:

Hi there. I don't have a disabled toddler but I have great admiration for you if you do. I'm sure it takes a whole lot of courage, patience and love to care for a little one who is disabled.

My husband is the loved one who is disabled, not my child. But we're here to offer any support you need. Our cousin cares for her son who has Down's so we're familiar with how much she goes through on a daily basis. :hug:

two are and one is 17 that have disabilities.

But I do definately understand the taking care of a toddler with disabilities.

i have an 11 year old son who is physically handicap. It's a hard job as you well know. He makes me smile and thats all i need some days, and others well i guess you know. Keep smiling and know your among friends.

Disabled young children
 

I have custody of my three grandchildren. The oldest 9 has underdeveloped motor skills and learning disabilities, the next 7 has hearing and speech issues, the baby 18 months has prader willi syndrome. The baby has therapy and doctor appointments that cover at least 4 days a week. She cannot sit up on her own, I just had the molds cast for leg braces. I have had the two oldest for all but 6 months of their lives and have had the baby since she was 5 months old. The baby has body temperature control issues, severe developmental delays, hypotonia, as well as the other issues that come with her disorder. Always willing to talk and share knowledge and experiences.:grouphug:

What a great grandmother you are. Once (before my move and MS) taught children with such problems and know you get little respite (I got lunch and left by 4). You have rights under laws to education for all and help for all classified children. I read you are getting help for 18 month old, so you must know child is entitled to services birth until 21. Do you get any respite help for you? You are the greatest advocate for these kids, being very visible and vocal to make sure teachers and therapists do their jobs correctly. IEPs need to be approved by you as best and most reasonable plans. Are kids eligible for SSDI? Educate yourself as much as possible, some boards of education not as good as others when they are trying to cut corners and save money and make you work for everything. You are not totally alone in this battle, PM me if you want and I'll try my best in my limited way.
