Sexually Explicit Mail

I knew that title would get your attention....but this is really about just that!!

I just got my mail in and there was an envelope from the Sussex Drive Pharmacology Corp. I figured it was just another online pharmacy trying to get my business since I have ordered from a Canadian pharmacy before (HBP meds).

Oh boy! Was I ever wrong!! :o What I found when I opened the envelope was soft porn. It was an advertisement for a spray for men to use in order to perform better. OMGoodness.....the pictures they included were sooooo explicit. Showed couples in the act!! And there was no mistaking it.....they were naked and left nothing to the imagination!

Can companies mail such stuff? I'm no prude but what if there were young children in this household that opened this? It looks harmless enough from the outside. When did stuff like this start getting into the mail? Or am I just behind the times and this has been going on all along?

Whoa! That makes me think twice about blindly giving junkmail to kids! There must be someone (besides the yappy one) who will want a report of this. Yuck.

I am a prude.

I emailed the USPS to see if this was legal....and if they wanted the mail.

Hey, where's B2Y? She'd probably know what the procedure is for this type of stuff.

Companies CAN mail that stuff, because people subscribe to such stuff (think magazines, etc.) But unsolicited stuff like that is a different story.

Here is the official word:

· Stopping receipt of unsolicited "obscene" mail

You may file PS Form 1500 at a local Post Office to prevent receipt of unwanted obscene materials in the mail or to stop receipt of "obscene" materials in the mail. The Post Office offers two programs to help you protect yourself (and your eligible minor children).

Option 1: Application for Prohibitory Order (requires the objectionable mailpiece)

Under the Pandering Advertisements Statute, 39 USC 3008, if you are the addressee of an advertisement, and consider the matter (product or service) that it offers for sale to be "erotically arousing or sexually provocative," you can obtain a Prohibitory Order against the mailer. You apply for the order by submitting the entire advertising mailpiece (the original, NOT a photocopy) with a properly completed application. Minor children under 19 years old and residing with you may be included in the application.

o Provides a deterrent to continued mailings by a specific mailer advertising a product or service you consider erotically arousing or sexually provocative

o You are required to save all materials, including the envelope and the entire mailpiece and then attach the entire opened mailpiece to PS Form 1500

Option 2: Application for Listing (does not require a mailpiece)

Under the Sexually Oriented Advertisements Statute, 39 USC 3010, the United States Postal Service maintains a list of persons who have informed us they do not wish to receive sexually oriented advertisements in their mail. When informing the Postal Service, such persons may also have their minor children under 19 years of age, who are residing with them or are under their care, custody, or supervision, included on the list.

o Provides a deterrent to the mailing of ANY unsolicited sexually oriented advertisements to protected persons

Note: If you have any further questions regarding this process, please contact the Local Post Office.

That was from www.usps.com, by the way.

I don't even subscribe to any magazines. The only thing I can think of is I had a prescription for my HBP med filled through a Canadian pharmacy because they carried the generic and it's not available here in the US just yet.

Thanks for your info on reporting it, though. I was just floored by the photos included with the ad.
