Morel mushrooms....

:D Just like last year I found two....only in a different place in my yard.
What a big tease!! they are yummy but hardly a mouthful!! Thank goodness Mr.Alffe doesn't like them. I used to get huge puffballs on the other side of the barn but haven't have them in a couple of years.

What is the secret?? Or is it pure dumb luck to find any at all.

At first I thought you'd made an error in the title and called it Morel instead of More Mushrooms. LOL :D

I just went to google and looked up Morel Mushrooms. They... ummmmmmm... how to say this nicely... don't look very appetising to me. ;)

I couldn't clean them, cook them and eat them fast enough. :D And looks aren't everything! *grin

My DH was just talking about them. He always goes out in the timber and looks around the base of dead trees. I love them and even though they are a pain to fix, we really pig out on them. We need a rain and then some bigtime heat and out they will pop!

Hmmm, I have a batch of mushrooms in my yard where an old tree used to be. They don't look like morels. I'll have to take a pic and post it here when they come back up. I mowed them over yesterday. lol

What kind are they? Are they edible?

Sandy~ Morrels look like lt yellow or gray sponges on a stem. Don't eat anything w/o knowing what they are. And, don't smoke em either!!! :D:D:D:D:D

LOL I wont I promise! I honestly don't know what kind of mushrooms they are. I have them in my garden as well. I always heard where there are mushrooms, there is good soil so I am all set on that. As soon as they come back up I'll get a pic for you.

http://thegreatmorel.com/images/mush1.jpg they aren't pretty as Lara pointed out but if you slice a morel horizontally, they have hollow stems. and you have to soak them for a bit in cold water before saute ing (can't spell) them in a little real butter....I cannot believe how much $$ they want for them at the Farmers Mkt.

Oh wow!!

Morel Mushrooms are just the best and the second thing I miss about the Midwest with first being family. :(

Our neighbors sold them for $25.00 a pound and always sold out.

We were lucky enough to have a woodsy back yard so picked our own. :D

I know my creep sister will call one of these days and say "guess what we had for dinner?"

Just because I call her and happen to mention our weather is wonderful and we are still in shorts and tank tops in October....
