They just don't listen
 

We have a large driveway/parking area on the side of our house. My darling cat likes to go out and roll in the dirt. Then, she walks aroung like pigpen from the Peanuts cartoon with a cloud of dust following her.

Yesterday before she went out we had a long talk about how she tracks dirt into the house when she rolls in the dust and that she is not as soft and silky to pet because of the dirt on her coat. She meowed her understanding so I let her out with confidence.

The first things she did is run to the driveway and roll in the dirt. I don't know why I waste my breath.

Our black and white cat does this too!

Turns herself gray! Up north she rolls in the dirt where we feed the deer! Sandy grey color...

I have often thought they do this to get some minerals from the dirt. It is fruitless to protest...your cat won't listen I bet!
We call it "dirty dirty"...
All 3 of our cats roll on the sidewalk at the edge of our property...and we always thought it was a "marking" behavior...since our oldest will punch out either of the others, if they do it.
But our black and white kitty will pick the only sandy dirt in the street or up North, and deliberately roll in it. Blech!

My husband says she is rolling in the dirt to hide her scent from predators. This makes some sense but then she will go on the front porch and rub her cheeks on the side of the house to mark it. Who knows? Their minds just don't work like ours.

Too cute. All of my animals do that and i swear it is the 1st thing they do if they get outside.

My dog as well. But dogs, they like to find icky things (like bird poo) and flop on their backs and roll in that. Bruna does that every time we go walking. :rolleyes:

Dogs will roll in dead fish! I've seen them do it.

About 3 summers ago one cousin brought two adolescent chocolate lab pubs up North. They ran amok, and weren't too bad when they came to us. I could persuade them to leave easily. But what they did that was very very funny is that both had to roll in the area where our 3 cats had made a latrine.
Rolling in cat pee and cat poop, must have gone over really well back at the small cabin they use! LOL We still laugh about THAT one!

My Dear dog Ned(RIP) who was white with black spots, use to relish rolling in the black sand at my Sisters place. He would go from brilliant white to grey, and look at me as if to say, "Mum I'm tooooooo clean the other dogs will laugh":D:D

Millie - my avatar - will roll in any nasty thing she can find. Oddly, then she expects a bath and brushing. She'll butt-bump you, show you to the tub, and scratch at it till she gets her way.

The papillon is just the oposite - he is really fussy. I've seen him walk on two legs to keep his feet clean.

Ozzy is too lazy to seek out or avoid messes. If he gets messy or needs a bath, he'll just sit there and give ya the *Bernie Mac* eyes. "Tell you what, America..."

My mini schnauzer (RIP) used to be quite clean, and would walk around dirty piles of anything. she seemed quite pleased with how clean she was ...until...she would come inside and not be quite done pooping, and...yep, you guessed it, DRAG her backside across the carpet! ick! :eek: then she would look at me like AH! that feeeeeeeeelsss soooooo gooooood! I used to have the carpet shampooed professionally twice a year, until I invested in a shampooer of my own.


My cat drinks from the toilet! I thought that was a dog thing. I have one cat I wont let out. She is quite brave, and I am terrified she will bring home one of the alpaca from the farm next door. She is afraid of nothing, and quite the hunter. I just cant trust her yet. She can be my indoor bug hunter.

she went up to his cage and he climbed down his outside toy screaming and flapping. Guess he told her WHAT.

She didn't go after him again.

The birds like Rudy, cuz he looks like a dog. They STILL think the pomeranians are cats and nothing I say is gonna change their minds.

I don't know.. I just know you have to treat them like children on most things.. "the ol spare the rod spoil the kitty" phrase.. I have had lost several corded devices and now everytime i catch her chewing I whip her with that object lmao.. hope its working! hope you find a solution...
