New full-time job!
I didn't apply for it.
The hours are terrible. The pay is lousy. No matter how hard I try, all I hear is complaints! Last night I was in the yard and heard a baby cry. So I got my trusty flashlight to investigate. And there it was on a chunk of discarded broken concrete: a lil white baby kitten! For something so small, it sure did cry Loud! So I picked it up for a minute until I saw the Mom nearby, then placed it right back where I found it. Later, when I listened, I didn't hear it anymore. But today I was outside planting flowers and it was crying! It was in the same place, only under a board. So I brought it in the house and gave it a saucer of half and half. It was too little to drink from it. :( The eyes are open, but I'll bet it's not more than 4 weeks old. What to do what to do? I called the animal rescue to see if they had a Momma kitty. Nope. "Our job is to NOT have any pregnant momma cats." So I called the local radio station to see when they had their 10 min. segment of call-in advertising. I was (seriously!) going to advertise for a Momma cat that could take an extra kitten. The guy that answered said it was over, and that He wasn't lactating, so he couldn't help. (Yes, he really said that!) The animal rescue lady said to feed it with a syringe. It didn't really like a piece of hard plastic poked in its mouth. So I got an old dustcloth and, with a rubber band, made a hangie-thingie on the end of the syringe. The kitten wasn't too crazy about it initially, but I think he is finally deciding its not all that bad. DH brought home a couple of jars of meat baby food for later. So, that's my new full-time job. Last year it was lil yellow baby birds that fell from their nest. This year its a lil white kitty with blue eyes abandoned by his mother. So cute! But very meowy and scratchy! Tonight he gets to sleep in the laundry room. He is lying on DH's old sweatshirt in the bottom of the laundry basket. I'm thinking I'll name him/her Sugar. DH asked if it were a boy or girl. I said, "If it grows pom-poms, its a boy." |
Congratulations on becoming a new mom Twink! That kitten is awfully lucky you found it and are caring for it. Will call it an it until it gets it's pom poms or not.

Awww...kitty!
My mom always used to say...where there's one , there's more! Have you looked outside for the rest of the litter, Mrs. Newmommacat? :) |
More? Noooooh!!!! One hungry baby is enough!
I suspect I interrupted the Momma as she was moving her litter. Gotta run -- the baby is crying! |
They have powdered kitten milk at the vets office, or local shelters. If you ask, I bet they would give you some. its easy to mix, and contains all the nutrients the baby needs. They even have tiny bottles. I used to work in a vet office, and that was one of the hardest jobs. Fostering new babies means feeding every two hours! takiung a damp cloth to wipe their bottoms to make them pee and poo. by stroking their bottoms it stimulates them to release their pay loads. dirty eyes, dirty ears. wooo! its alot like work. God bless you for taking it on. You just grew an inch taller in my eyes.

Twink, that was so nice of you to take in the kitten. Maybe it's a feral baby. We have some feral cats in the woods behind our house that are always having babies.
I would definitely have a vet check it over, I don't know at what age kittens are given their immunizations but Sugar may need them now that Mom's out of the picture. Maybe put a stuffed toy in the laundry basket with Sugar, she/he probably feels lonely. I admire you for doing this. :) |
Aw! Twink, that is so nice of you to bring the little kitty home.
About a year ago DD19 brought home a feral kitty from work. I actually fed it through a ear bulb for about a week. It worked great. Good luck with Sugar! He/she is lucky to have you. |
Bless you........
I had to feed Miss Gracie with a kitten bottle when I first got her. Guess it worked because she now weighs 22 pounds!! :o Obesity at it's finest! |
oh Twink. so wonderful and compassionate. Get thee to a vet! Keep us informed as to the progress of Sugar.
