One step closer to water...
 

We are one more step closer to getting our safe drinking water!!!! :Excited: (Our well water has arsenic in it and we have been using bottled water to drink and cook with since October.) They starting installing the street water pipes and we got our paperwork from the county water authority and all that nonsense.

What I've written below is kind of a rant! So if you don't want to read it, that's okay. Just writing it is helping me.

Of course, my husband is working these two days and everything has been put on me. I had to contact the water authority with our questions, make sure the contractors know our leach field was very very close to where they were digging and find out what our next step was. Although I have no clue what I am talking about I am getting good at faking it! I have no idea what any of the equipment in the basement is for the well so again I have just mumbled through it. I must sound like I know what I am talking about though because no one is looking at me like I'm a three-headed alien!

Right now I am dealing with the hassle of finding an excavator and plumber to install our water line, do our indoor plumbing, and abondon our well. Our septic is pretty much our entire front yard and there is only a few feet for them to dig and lay our water line which is a problem in itself.

My neighbors and I are hoping to use the same guy to do our work so maybe we'd get a better deal. Since I don't work and am good at making phone calls (when I can speak right that is), the neighbors around me a sort of are looking at me to find us all a plumber/excavator to do the work. So I make the calls, schedule an estimate for me then tell them go to the other houses and give them estimates if they're home. Otherwise I just give the name and number to the neighbors.

I have had three companies that do this type of work from start to finish come out and am just waiting on the estimates. I had a plumber come yesterday but he wrote on the contract that he is not responsible for our septic lines :eek: or any electrical lines (our light pole). I have another plumber coming this afternoon as well.

Needless to say I am extremely stressed out at this point. So I just keep reminding myself that maybe in 2-3 weeks or so I can actually drink the water out of my tap instead of lugging around gallon bottles!! :D

Karousel, I cannot believe you're still having to deal with arsenic in your water! My goodness, I assumed this had been resolved months ago! I don't blame you for ranting, lol!

Well the immediate resolution of this was for us to all buy bottled water and deal with it. :rolleyes: LOL. We have been waiting all this time for the town and county to move it along!! But it is the government we're dealing with and all the red tape BS...

safe drinking water is so important. dont give up! hang in there. fresh baths, and drinking from hoses, and splashing your dishes in the sink again is coming soon! :cool:

What you said about not knowing what you're talking about... Just remember, MOST people don't know what they're talking about either, but that doesn't stop them.

I tell my kids, you can rule the world with bullsh!T. Got my medical bills straightened out, got my son's bad credit fixed.

Thanks -we need all the luck we can get. I'm done with my BS for now at least, got what I wanted from the county, cut our bill in almost half...yeah!

just speaking from a contractor standpoint. firstly i never lost money on a job i didnt get, but ive lost jobs because someone undercut my bid.truth of the matter is the lowest bid is not alway the bargan it may seem. take a good look at what you'll get for that price and what kind of follow up support can you expect.
when i was painting full time, my jobs werent done untill my clients said they were happy with my work.(clients Vs. customers......good contractors have clients. Mc Donalds has customers)and if my clients had questions or needed something touched up i did it. it was always factored into my bid as a potential need. like say someone bought a house and wanted it painted before they replaced the carpet. i always factored in a post carpet touch up in my bid.if the client did not want that available to them i would take that out, but many times the lowest big will only get you the lowest quality sevice and products.

PS keep the bottled drinking water,it'll prob'ly taste better than the city water. or at least keep the water softener and RO system.

Flutemaker - thanks for the advice. I always make mistakes when choosing contractors - I will let me husband decide this one. When he does, he always chooses better. Plus there are 5 of us that will use the same company so that will help too!

If I never have to drink bottled water (in my home) again, I will be very happy. It'll be the same water as my parents' so it won't be too bad. I hope! Plus it has flouride so my daughter can stop taking her flouride pills!! But I may keep the bottled water for the coffee since it takes much better.
