Different Worlds

Hey everyone,
Just thought I would share a quick poem I just wrote and thought I would see if anyone could give me any feed back on what they think. Thank you.

DIFFERENT WORLDS

PAIN,
You don’t know the half of it,
You think it feels like your kind of pain,
You are WRONG,
Our pain is so much worse than your pain,
When you get hit or touched in your rsd areas
It hurts more than you will ever know,
It feels worse than being burnt by fire,
You think you know how we feel,
You are way wrong,
You will NEVER know the pain we walk through everyday,
Everyday seems to be more of a challenge,
The challenges we face are nothing like your challenges,
We have to fight for EVERYTHING we do and say,
You do not,
Our world is so much different than yours,
Your world seems to be so easy compared to ours,
You don’t live with pain 24/7 like we do,
You may have pain,
But it is nothing like ours,
I wish you could endure what we do for just one day,
Then maybe you would understand a little better,
Pain is not a GAME,
It is one of the most real things out there,
It is one of the BIGGEST monsters out there to us,
So if you really think you know what we are going through,
Then come live our life for one day,
You won’t know how to react,
As we are still trying solve puzzles everyday and not always exceeding.

Tracy,
Every word you write is true.

I especially like the last sentences, that is some resounding sentiment!

If I had to criticize, it would probably need to be from a none rsd'r's point of view.
It might just sound a tad "blaming", because they don't know our pain.
We ALL search for understanding, there's just a whisp of "Anger" in there, that isn't the reader's fault.
(I think we all feel that, Lord knows I have difficulty hiding it, when I'm confronted with a "disbeliever"!)

Overall,
Great job!

I'll bet it felt good to get that off your chest!?

Hope you're feeling well, Tracy!

Hi Tracy,

I love the poem and agree with every word of it - you have done a great job!!!

I agree with what Pete said though, I think that some non RSD'ers might think that we are trying to 'compete' and say that our pain is a lot worse than theres. I know that we aren't at all but some people think that sometimes no matter how many times we tell them we aren't.

We don't claim to know what someone else endures with a condition that we don't have, just like others shouldn't compare their pain to RSD.

Overall though, I think you did a great job and really got the word out about RSD! Thanks for sharing your poem with us!

Hugs, Alison.

Well, since poems are the topic of this thread, the following poem always touched me. It was part of a medical article on adolescents with CRPS and was written by a 14 year old CRPS sufferer named Brittney:

PAIN

Burning coldness
Crushing,
Numb and hot
Help me someone,
Make it stop!

It started out so innocently
When three books fell upon me
My foot began with a twinge
Then relentlessly,
Crept up my limb

It became unbearable
Moments passed like years
Looking for a miracle
A never-ending nightmare

Guillotines, power saws
Alligators and lion's jaws
Nightmares of horror
Terrified to close my eyes
Fearing more awaits inside

Branded by the endless pain
Am I going to go insane?
You don't know just how I feel
Does that mean it isn't real?

Is my world just not true?
Don't I see and feel -- like you?

Please don't stop trying
I can't help my crying
I feel so maimed
Help me, Help me

I'm in pain!

Should the last word be succeeding and not exceeding ?

screwballpookie 06-01-2009 12:39 PM

It could be either way couldn't it? But Yeah I do agree with you finz. The more i look at it, should be succeeding. Sometimes my brain is kind of fuzzy and I could use that extra help. Thank you,I do like succeeding better. That was a poem I wrote on a whim cuz my hubby and i got into another fight and I didn't do any revising on it. It was just one that came to me and I just typed it up. Thank you again. Your word makes a little more sense than mine.

Sincerely,
Tracy

Ahh........

It makes more sense to me now that you mentioned this was after a fight with hubby. I like it more that "you" is a specific person and not everyone who doesn't have RSD. It sounded rather harsh to tell everyone their pain can't be as bad.....because we can't know what kind of physical or psychological pain that everyone else could be feeling

I don't mean that to sound hypercritical.......I have had more than my share of angry and bitter feelings about this condition, the ignorant doctors who did nothing to help, and friends and family who just don't get it. But because right this second I'm not in a lot of pain and I'm in a decent mood, I am made uncomfortable by the anger in your words. Which, ultimately, is what art is about.....getting us to feel something and experience something that the artist has gone through
