Why cant I change the colors of my windows XP desktop ?

Hi !!!!

I need some help here...

I have a white wallpaper in my desktop and the thing is, that the letters under the icons in the desktop are white, so, I cant see them :o

I went to right click >> preferences >> advanced options >> icons BUT ! I can only choose the font type, bold or italics... but the thing where you can choose the color is disabled !!! Does anyone know why ?? Can I do something to solve that ??

I really like my white wallpaper... :p

Thank you !!!!

I have a photo as my desktop wallpaper-
but a dark blue/green color set as the main background in the advanced options settings.
that seems to make a blue box for the icon text to show in...
maybe that would work for you.

a few more ideas -
To make the Icon Text Black
to get black text under your icons is turn off the drop shadows on the text.
To do so go Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Performance Settings and there is a visual effect to turn on/off drop shadows. Turn it off. With Shadows the text is white, without shadows the text is black.

some free pgms to change /edit icons -

I put red as background color and letters are still white and when I select an icon, letters are white over a grey box  :(
