keppra...questions?

I was diagnosed with spinal myoclonus today and the doctor wants to start me on Keppra. I know next to nothing about this med. I was hoping someone could give me some advice about it.

What to expect? any side effects? what to watch out for? Does it work?

Any advice would be helpful. thank you.

Keppra is used mostly by the epilepsy community. So going there gives a good account of what to expect, compared to other drug sites with general information.

This one was interesting with percentages reporting various side effects:

There is another effect that turns up in the literature:
Keppra rage... so if you notice any behavioral effects like this
report that to your doctor.

You might ask this question at our epilepsy forum...there might be patients there who have personal experiences to share.

thank you MrsD. I posted the question over on the epilepsy forum and I will also check out the link you posted. Peace--Gypsy

I've heard through the grapevine that folks who have a tendency toward depression should not take Keppra due to a potential of "rage."
I do have a friend who takes this med. with no side effects at all, and much benefit. However, she was made aware of this, watched for problems and was willing to go off of it if necessary. Fortunately, she had no problems and did/does very well.

Keppra

I take Keppra for nerve pain and it works quite well . Just google it and it will tell you all about it. Good luck :)

hi i just started keppra a couple of weeks ago,
the only side effect ive noticed is the tiredness
i had been warned about mood stability, cognitive performance
none of these have been an issue with me
it has basically not affected my mood at all (noticeably)
then again, i didn't even notice any side effects from dilantin
i think it's different for everybody
the good thing to know about keppra is that many people do good on it
the side effects are really mild compared to other drugs
but if you have any problems with depression, i would maybe think twice
otherwise i would give it a try and see if it works for you :)
