Doctor Reccommendations?
 

I know I've seen a few threads on here where people have mentioned Hopkins as "the place" to go in terms of the DC area...If I were to talk to my current doc about a possible referral there, does anyone have any specific recommendations on which doctors to seek out and/or which ones to avoid? In addition to competence issues, obviously, my other issue with doctors is usually that I have issues with ones who are "cold fish" and lack bedside manner. (Note: Not all the Hopkins docs are covered by my insurance, apparently, only some of them...the Feds give good insurance, but it isn't perfect...) Or other recommendations for good docs in the DC area?

If you can go to a teaching hospital like that then go there.
Find out who is covered and see that person.

Waiting at larger hospitals like Mayo is a bummer.. so bring a book/iPod.

But they are generally advanced in their testing techniques and know what they are doing.

in my experience, most neuro's are 'cold fishes'. These days I just go for proficiency in a neuro, and forget the bedside manner. Mostly it's their training, they are even more evidence based that your regular doctor.

Having said that my current neuro is remarkably human which I find unusual in a neuro - at least the neuro's we have in my neck of the woods.

Dr Griffin is the head of the dept (My doc, but difficult to get as a new patient) and his PA... Tami Ritseka.(I see her too).. is very good
Also....... Dr Cornblath has a good reputation
I get my empathy from my PCP, who also is JHH Family Health, and coordinates with all my JHH docs.

I pm'd you awhile ago re: doc @ JH. I am better prepared to travel to Baltimore now since my daughter is available June through August. So, how hard is it to get to see Dr. Griffin? Is he not taking new patients or is it a matter of having to wait a long time for an app't? Thanks.

You'll have to call. Dr Griffin is elderly and not taking many new patients due to health reasons. His PA is seeing patients who elect to stay with him, if he's not available for appointments.
