Signs of CRPS getting worse?

Have been a visitor here quite often this is one of my first post so be gentle.:D

Were any of you able to determine "signs" that you now know were actual signs that your CRPS was getting worse and possible spreading?

Lately I am sweating a lot all over by body, and when my CRPS first started it would be located on my left ankle and foot. Pain is about the same.
Have new light brown blotch on my right ankle (opposite ankle that now hurts) and it is starting to hurt in a minor way. Does it spread in this fashion with these signs?
Also feeling much more nauseated most of the day and sleep is even more difficult and fatigue is worse.
Medications are pretty much the same and I have stopped working for a couple of weeks to give my self a chance to rest and heal up. (Only worked 33% before this due to MS)

I have had one spinal block with just a little relief for about 8 hours.

Hello,

Welcome to NT. Everyone here is very nice. RSD acts differently for all of us. When mine began to spread it was quick. It went from my right arm and shoulder to full body in less than a year.

Take care,
Sherrie

Hi Roger,

When my RSD spread it went from my shoulder to my neck and head and I would wake up vomiting with pain. It was pretty nasty. It actually took me a while to figure out what was going on. Unfortunately, the head pain has never abated, and my only option right now is to control it with meds. My PT is a big help too, but I only see him 2x a week. I now have severe burning pain with skin color changes and occasional swelling in my right foot, so I am almost certain the RSD has just spread again. Plus it has become very hard to drive with that foot, the vibrations of the car hurt a lot. Both my feet have bothered me all winter, I just keep walking a lot...

Everyone is different. There is a ton of info on the RSDSA.com website. I would recommend that you check it out when you get a chance. And that you find a really good doctor that you can relate to (look at old posts for recs on how to find one - not as easy as it sounds).

Couldn't tell you about the brown blotch - you need to show it to a doc.

Welcome, and good luck, Sandy

Hello Roger and Welcome to Neurotalk!!! You will meet many great people here who i'm sure will try and help you if they can and I promise we will go gentle with you lol!!:)

I'm so sorry to hear that you also suffer from RSD and of everything that you are going through right now!

I have RSD/CRPS in my left leg and both arms. I developed in March 2007 when I was 12 years old after an ankle sprain and it spread to my right arm about 5 months later after another injury and then to my left arm in January of this year.

When the RSD spread from my leg to my right arm, everything happened very fast. I was in the bath tub and tried getting myself out but fell and knocked my arm as I was suffering from blurred vision from a medication. My mum said she would get me out but I tried getting out myself as I wanted to be as independant as possible ... I wish i'd let her get me out now!!!

Within about an hour of falling and knocking my arm, my wrist area started to go blue and then swelt up a lot and became very painful. I think I knew straight away that it was the RSD as I had all of the symptoms. My arm got worse over the next few hours and my arm began to close into a fist (I suffer from Dystonia as a result of the RSD).

My mum to me to the hospital where they xrayed my arm and said it wasn't fractured but sent me immediately to my Pain Management Doctor for him to have a look at it.

He diagnosed a spread of the RSD and then increased my medications and send me to Physical Therapy to try and help.

When the RSD spread to my arm earlier this year, the symptoms came on pretty gradually. I fell on some black ice getting in the taxi cab to go to school (I attend a special school centre due to my RSD) and twisted my arm. I had quite a bit of pain after the injury but didn't really think anything of it as it wasn't as bad as the usual RSD pain.

Within the next few days though, my shoulder got more and more painful and whenever I touched it, it hurt a lot. My mum also noticed that it started going red so mentioned it to my PT's when I next saw them who said it looked like a spread of the RSD but they couldn't diagnose it as they weren't a doctor.

If you suspect that the RSD is getting worse and/or spreading, I would definitiely call your Pain Management Doctor if you have one to see what he/she says you should do.

Keep trying to move your affected limbs as much as possible. I KNOW it hurts a lot but it's really important that you try and keep moving!! Are you in Physical Therapy at the moment? PT's can often give you some good exercises that might help if they treat RSD.

I also suffer from the Nausea that you mentioned. I spoke to my doctor about it and he said that it's probably from the ammount of pain I am in. Some medications can cause nausea also so it might be worthwhile looking at the side effects.

Take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon!! Please keep us updated when you can!

Alison.

Hi Roger,
Skin issues are common to many of us. I have brownish spots. Sometime reddish dots that are raised and then turn brownish-raised. permanent spots. I've had two lesions, open sores that got infected-it is serious to get them clean and healed without spreading and causing major infection. My Dr. says it's important to alway use sun screen. I'm very careful in the sun now. I've also had rashes that itch. You may want to look at the pictures at the top of the forum, you'll see a lot of different types of skin conditions. Maybe you'll recognize ones like yourself. Take care, loretta

Hi bobber, I not sure, but it seems like I heard once you need to post like 10 times before you can post new> That may be totally wrong.
Another idea is up in the right hand corner will be Welcome, bobber
Then Your Notifications: push on that part your notifications; a new page willcome up and on the left will be a series of words you can look at and maybe you can findnew thread there. I'm still learning. What about on the blue strip under NeuroTalk in about the middle has New Posts= maybe that is it. This drives my husband nuts, I just keep pushing buttons till something works like on our tv , stereo etc.:D Take care and never give up, your rsd friend ,loretta
