Stem Cells and MS-Fat Applications
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/147531.php
While studies using stem cells to develop a treatment for MS have been creating an endless stream of news stories on the topic in recent months, one report seems to be tipping the scales of interest. A company called Medistem is investigating the use of stem cells derived from fat tissue to treat MS. In a study published in the Journal of Translational Medicine, three men who have MS showed significant physical improvement after being injected with lab-treated stem cells culled from their own fat tissue. The study participants had been diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS and were followed for up to six months. They reported improved cognition and energy levels as well as reduced spasticity and pain. The treatment, known as non-expanded adipose stromal vascular fraction (SVF) cell therapy, stopped a pattern of seizures in one man who had a history of more than 600 MS-related seizures. "All three patients in our study showed dramatic improvement in their condition after the course of SVF therapy. While obviously no conclusions in terms of therapeutic efficacy can be drawn from these reports, this first clinical use of fat stem cells for treatment of MS supports further investigation into this very simple and easily-implementable treatment methodology," Dr. Boris Minev, division of neurosurgery at the University of California, San Diego, said in a news release. In people with MS, the immune system attacks and destroys the myelin sheath that surrounds and protects nerves cells. It's believed that SVF cells, and other stem cells, may limit this immune reaction and promote the growth of new myelin. |
I saw the same article and posted on it earlier in here.
Liposuction and MS, sounded good to me. Only three patients though so not a full study by any means but I am so willing to be a guinea pig for that and the adult stem cell research! |
Me too, Cin..:D

sign me up! lip and MS treatment!
Sally always finds the best stuff. |
Thanks for the info :D
I'm pretty sure the stem cell treatment being done in Costa Rica is using stem cells derived from fat. From what I have read on another site people are seeing improvement :) but the person who had it done who started the post only had it done about 5-6mths ago. I'm watching results and I'm waiting for the U.S. to catch up and not take the immune system down to nothing with chemo. Linda |
