So we were gonna get a pool pass BUT...

And it was packed to capacity! I called asking about it and they reach capacity all the time, its because the pool passes are 30 bucks for family passes and everyone GOES in the summer, I am so ticked. I really wanted this for Jackie. I just have a real bad mood going because now we're not gonna do this and I am ticked we only have two public pools in the county and that they are over burdened. Dang it! :(

Pam

Sorry about the fact that the pool is always packed. But do you happen
to have a local YMCA close by. If so check into whether they do sponsorships of scholarships for low income.

Also you might ask the group that is doing Jackie's Services if they have a company that lets their families get in at a reduced rate. Or for free.

That stinks

Hi,

I know this is a dumb question but I am asking anyway.

Usually pools are not crowded during the week at the first moment they open -- 8:00 am ? sunrise?

Who told you that they are at full capacity all day long all week long? That doesn't make sense. I might consider calling them back. Do people stand in line outside like they would at a packed club, waiting for two people to leave so that two more can go inside?

Piggy backing on what Donna said:
Think about other pools near you.
Some schools and colleges have pools and could be talked into making special arrangements for you.
These place will have camps going on in the summer, but they will have an off hour or two during the week that they could schedule for you.

Also, medical centers have pools for rehab and general exercise. See if they can let your son swim.
(As I write this, I realize that a high school is not going to let someone in totally off schedule and with no life guard -- that is my perception. Still, these places might have room for a few more people -- they cannot always be at capacity.

Sorry that you seem to have to go to extraordinary effort for each success that you achieve.

Even some regular big chain gyms would give you a week long pass. That would help a little.
Near the end of the week, you could try to get them to give you a free pass/member ship that would be limited to the summer and limited to the pool.

I really wish you had an advocate -- someone to help you make phone calls and pull strings.
Have you found a good social worker-type person yet? I believe in miracles and I believe that these people exist.

Keep breathing and stay positive.

We're just working on fixing our old pool and just gonna suffer one more unbearable summer I'm afraid. :( I had had high hopes for it this year but no way are we able to get them to accommodate Jackie like I would like. :(

Pam

Call the local Autism society. They may know of a group that can help you find someone to fix your pool. Or get you into a pool.

Don't give up yet. Remember this is Jackie your doing this for.

Dear Pam,
It sounds like you make good use of that pool and can make it work.
Enjoy.
