Attn: Women Only Please! Intense Prickling/Itching
I get a prickling itching sensation in my genital area once or twice a year. For the past two weeks, it has been at times intense. I told my PCP about it, and he prescribed Spectazole cream to be used twice a day. It helps for awhile, but certainly not enough to be used only twice a day. He said it sounds like a fungal infection.
I've been using it three times a day. I am also using Aloe gel, which burns for awhile and then it helps. Has anyone or does anyone else have this? I have an appointment with my GYN the week after next. Hopefully, I can hold on until then because I really and truly don't want to be examined by my PCP. I like him, have gone to him for four years, but I just don't want to lay exposed on a table in front of him if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. I've also posted this in the Women's Health forum. |
Well, I seem to have the same problem...only in a different area. I have been itching like crazy on my left arm and my the thumb on my left hand. Itching that won't go away even when scratched. There's no rash.....no nothing....just itching. I've heard that MS legions in certain areas of the brain can cause this. I haven't done any research on it, though. Maybe I will now. I've used cortizone cream and it helps a little but not enough. :(
Hopefully someone knows the answer. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. |
me me me! I have been checked, and double checked. its NOT a fungal infection, nor bacterial. The MS clinic says its nerve pain stuff. The ITCH! OMG the itch! I could dig till I reached china if I let my self have at it.
I have used a 2.5% hydrocort cream, and that does help. I wear lose undies, and make sure my jeans are not tight. Wear loser clothes while its going on. After a week or two, ta da! itch is all gone. MS center said alot of women get it. most find that its where a seam rides from either undies or pants. now if you will excuse me, I need to go scratch myself. |
I have The Itch That Wont Die on my back.
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the lesion on C-4. It's right in between the shoulder blades, close to the spine actually, and it spreads from there. Sometimes I can ignore it, and sometimes I have to scratch like crazy. I think I have scratch marks on my back from my backscratcher stitck. (handy dandy back scratcher thingie I bought at Walgreens) I have to go scratch my back till it bleeds now, since thinking about it just woke up it. ARRRRRRGH!!!! |
I have the back itch, too. It's maddening! Why is it always in that one area that cannot be reached from above or below??
It's amazing the sx that MS can cause.....some you'd never relate to MS. |
I only get it on my legs; I feel for you! I'm very grateful now that I've read this that not only can I reach my legs, but I can scratch them whenever I want. I'm so sorry you all experience this.

My feet - different spots. The bottom, a toe area, the side of a foot, you name it. It's a nerve thing for CMT at least. Drives a person crazy.

Flashing back to 70's - book Our Bodies, Ourselves. Being an impressionable youth (I was) remember part written to let that part of self should air dry after shower. Goes with not wearing tight jeans, make sense.

Skip's Pharmacy did a survey yesterday and one of the questions was about itching. Do you think it could be the LDN?

This is truly amazing! Everyone with itches in completely different places, which are probably due to MS lesions. Thanks everyone. As usual, you've made me feel not so alone in all of this. :)
I did pick up some Gold Bond ointment today, which seems to help the best out of everything I've tried so far. I also have a patch in my middle lower back and one on my hip that was driving me nuts, also. My doc prescribed some prescription cream and instructed me to mix it with Eucerin. That did help. Now if the itching "down there" would just stop and go away! It seems to attack me the worst in the middle of the night. I sleep naked, plus I wear loose clothing most of the time during the day. Thanks for all of the suggestions. Many hugs to all of you! |
