TN sufferers in their 20's.

I am 26 years old and from what I understand most people are in their 50's when they get it. I wonder what percentage of people are my age out there. This is a verrrry special condition. I really want to get a handle on this.

Hi massage .welcme to the T.N. forum at Nuero Talk tho I am really sorry if T.N. is the reason you are here.:(
Trigeminal Neuralgia is a special condition .I think that is because most people never heard of it but it is getting more and more attention and being reconized alot more now then it used to. Thanks to places like this and for support groups and people fighting to find a cure or some controll over T.N.
:grouphug:
I hope you are having a low pain day. there is stickies at the top of this forum with tons of good info. and many great people too.

I have had this since 1999. I know of at least 3 young children who have this and it is exspecialy hard for them as they cannot medicate or have surgery or treatment like an adult.

I do know it is not uncommon at all to meet people in their
20s and 30s with T.N. or a varried form of it like bilateral or atypical. In fact most of the friends I know with T.N. are under 50 most in mid 30s and 40s. some even younger like you are.

What area of face do you have T.N. ? This is a perfect place to come for support ,info and just to talk with others who know what T.N. feels like first hand. read threw some the the threads here .If you need anything or some questions come up just post and we will help .
PEACE
BMW

any meds help you ? are you seeing a neuro ? what about a pain management doctor? A pain doctor helped me the most. maybe you can get your doctor to refer you to a pain doc???

anyways the cold and wind are evil. I can handle the heat and find hot baths and heating pad on that area help me..maybe for you like it is for others a cold compress will help.

So sorry to hear about your pain. I was in my early 30's when my TN started. As BMW suggested, get opinion from a neurologist or neuorsurgeon who specialize in TN. Have them order an MRI to insure nothing is banging into your T-nerve. If your primary doc won't refer you to a specialist, then get a new primary doc who is willing to help you. Don't give up and settle for taking a ton of meds (unless you find a low dosage really relieves your pain). There are many options for treatment, and you will find people in this forum that have certainly tried one or more various treatments. I tried just about everything over the years: meds, acupuncture/pressure, chiropractics, massage therapy, meds, and more meds. I eventually tried a Gamma Knife treatment and then finally had a MVD surgery done about 12 weeks ago. I'm now pain free but only after trying several options. Don't give up your quest for a pain-free life. We are all pulling for you here!

Hi massageSA,

I'm 21 and have had TN going on 5 years.

Have you been recently diagnosed? What are you currently taking etc.

feel free to email if you like, I usually check them every day :)
