New here with questions, spinal cord swelling

I have had back and neck pain for about 7 years now, and recently it has gotten much worse. I have shock-like sensations down my arms and lost feeling and sensation in one hand. I had an MRI done of my cervical spine and found out this week that I have disk problems in my neck C456, but the worst part is they found swelling of my spinal cord at and below C6. The Dr. did not think it had anything to do with the disk problems they found. So now I need to see a neurosurgeaon and I am waiting on my insurance to tell me who I can see. I have two small children and I am a single Mom, and I worry for them. I have no idea what could be causing this and I am very concerned. If anyone has insight or knows anything about this, please let me know. Thank you so much!

I spent last night in the ER because after reaching under my daughters bed to get something I got shooting pain in my back neck and arms and lost all feeling in my hands. Now I am in a neck brace and on anti-inflamitories until I see the neurosurgeon.
