Zanaflex,choline & magnesium salicylate,etc?

I saw my pain doc today who is increasing neurontin as I am only on 900 to at least 1800 or up to 3200 slowly. He also gave me zanaflex for night time and choline and magnesium salicylate 500mg for pain as needed as it is an anti inflammatory. Also encouraged me to try the diclofenac sodium gel. I have to talk to my psych about the serequel, cymbalta, and klonopin to see what needs to be changed. Anyhow any experiences with the new meds I have been suggested. I talked to him about more as needed meds other then the darvocet and vicodin that he did not rx me but my neuro did. He will not do anything with narcotic/opiates because like the other pain docs I have seen feel that I would continue to need more and the brain processes pain more. So it is about meds like the stated and CBT therapy. I am not sure what to think. Thanks for any thoughts

Neurontin, even at low doses, made me trip over things and gain weight. I only stayed on it for a few weeks.

Lyrica is a newer version of Neurontin. Some people on this board say they prefer it. I didn't like that either, though. It made me very moody and argumentative.

Just my opinion - everyone reacts differently.

Good luck, Sandy

I'm on 6 mg zanaflex at bedtime and it's a life saver. I have a fine tremor that keeps me awake without it. I'd like to take more but my current doc is uncomfortable prescribing more.

Hi. Thank you. He rx me it for sleep and pain at night cause I can go a few nights and I mean that with no sleep. I am on serequel and klonopin and klonopin is for muscle relaxing too so he said just as needed at night 1-2. I had tried Lyrica in the past and it was not for me. I don't have tremors but my muscles get so tight I feel like there is no circulation and hard to propel. Thanks again

For what it's worth, Zanaflex first knocked me out. But after a few months it no longer did, and I could do my work as a lawyer right through it: until I couldn't due to pain. I was up to 36 mg. [4 mg. x 6/day] for maybe 3+ years, before it stopped working and I was switched to Baclofen tablets -- now at 50 mg./day -- which I'm advised is the limit. It works pretty well, but plays random havoc with at least my short-term memory.

When the cramping gets really strong, I double down on Neurontin and take some Marinol, which is great except that it takes about 45 minutes to cut in and then leaves you stoned for quite a while: it being a synthetically created but exact copy of one of 6 naturally occuring TCH molecules. (And as noted a little while back on another thread, it can be legally prescribed throughout the U.S. and Canada.)

Something else to consider for spasms, in any event. (And I too take magnesium: a full gram every night.)

Daniella;

Of those meds you mention, I take the zanaflex @ bedtime. Works well. It can easily be titrated up, for daytime use, but slowly.

However, I advise you to be VERY careful of Seroquel. It can be an absolute Monster!
It's an "Atypical" anti psychotic. That is for Bipolar disorder, and something i can't spell. (Psychosis)? If you don't have either of those, stay away from this drug. (Imho)~!

The side effects are terrible, and I've witnessed them with a wonderful friend.
Acting out in the middle of the night, with no memory of it. and just generally causing havoc, that with this disease, nobody understands to begin with, do we need to add a drug like that on top of it?

Please, educate yourself, on Seroquel! Google it, and read as much as you can, especially all the lawsuits that are flying because of "off label" prescribing.
It's a very dangerous drug, as are all the "Atypicals"!

Peace,

Pete
