Toxic Compost

My daughter's little dog became suddenly very ill, vomiting and shaking. She rushed her to the vet late in the evening, and the vet said she had been "poisoned" by ingesting compost. The vet said that compost can be a neurotoxin. He said that usually they see problems with Labs and other dogs which tend to gobble up whatever, but a tiny dog doesn't have to ingest much to be in real trouble.

My daughter didn't know that, I didn't know that, and most people I've talked to didn't know it, either. Did you know that? Fence off or enclose your compost. Yikes.

There are some mulches that are toxic to dogs. Do you think he meant that?

I was just wondering that myself. If compost is the case, I need to alert a few friends!

Cocoa Mulch is toxic to pets. There's so many things outside that can cause pets to become sick. :(
