Broken blood vessels, lesions?

Well now I'm on here for my sister. She just had an MRI and they discovered several lesions as well as multiple broken blood vessels. We're not sure exactly what's going on with her. She was diagnosed with Lymes Disease 3+ years ago but has had increasing symptoms including passing out, slurred speech, disorientation, loss of feeling on sides of her body as well as numbness and tingling, weakness and dropping things.

She is meeting with a Neurologist and Neurosurgeon tomorrow a.m. but we are trying to do as much research as we can right now. Any information you can point us to would be really helpful.

Hi Kristen. It's really sweet of you to do research for your sister and she's lucky to have you!

I don't know much about Lyme disease, but as far as I know, MS doesn't cause broken blood vessels. The only thing I really know about Lyme is that the symptoms are pretty similar to MS symptoms, and I think you have to find a really good lab to diagnose it. Many people are initially diagnosed with Lyme disease but find out later it's really MS, and vice versa.

I used to have a fainting problem, but my MS specialist says it is definitely not from MS. The other symptoms you listed are pretty common with it though. I'm glad your sister is seeing a neuro though; that's a great place to start. Good luck to you and your sister, and hopefully someone with more knowledge will pipe in soon. Hang in there! :)

Maybe it's possible the Lyme was not completely treated? Most docs don't treat for long enough, according to those docs who believe in chronic lyme disease. There's some good info at ILADS.org, hope this helps.

There are more than 100 diseases that can mimic MS, and Lyme is on the top. Lyme blood test should be sent to one of the special labs, for a true positive ID. Devic's disease can cause the blood vessels thing, and the double sided numbness. So, can Lyme in later stages. Getting to MS or Lyme, or Devic dx can be a long fought battle. Its more of a process of ruling out, until you see what your left with.

If your sister has a positive Lyme titer, then you seek seek more detailed help in that direction. A rhuematologist would provide a good start.

I hope she feels better quickly.
