I finally asked for help with the credit cards

As many of you know I've had a hard time telling my husband about the
two really big amounts on credit cards. I finally asked for help to get rid
of them this last week.

One has 5,400 on it. And I have a 5,000 check for it right now. This will
help with it very much. I don't use the card anymore, except for some reason
medco thinks its still used for medication.

I have to figure out which card is going to be best for the medicines after
I get them with in reason.

We have another one that is high, its higher than this one. I'm guessing
because I don't have the new bill yet. That its over 6,000. But I request
10,000 all together for the bills. And then I can pay these two off.

I have one more that will be paid off soon. And one that I use. But its
for my traveling for work. But he wants me to stop on it too. So I'm
working on how I can have a card for that without it being a credit.

I think I can do a debit, but not a debit exactly. Anyone have a idea.
It would be appreciated.

I will post if you don't mind when the credit cards are all paid.

Good for you Donna! That wasn't easy but I bet that it's a big weight off your mind now isn't it? :D Glad you posted this it cheered me up to see you did this, I remember how this bothered you months ago. HURRAY for YOU! :D

Good for you Donna, I remember how much of an issue that was for you....that must be a relief!:)

WE finally paid off our credit card debt this last year by taking out a loan to cover the cards and the cars we then made huge payments toward this and paid it off very quickly.
I don't even have a credit card although I still have a line of credit should we ever need that.
I only use a debit card now. It is taken everywhere except...found this out last year....if you have to rent a car....they would not take my debit card.
I love my debit card! just keep those receipts and enter them into your check book.

All of my Credit cards are frozen... literally.... I placed them in a tupperware container...filled it full of water and stuck them in the freezer.

I couldn't get to them in a hurry and by the time they thawed out I most likely no longer want what ever it was that I was going to charge. But I also know that in case of an emergency... I still have credit available....just have to wait.
(Don't try to thaw out in microwave---it totally ruins the magnetic strip. Also...don't try to boil them to thaw...it ruins the whole card.)

I wish you well... getting out of credit card debt is hard... it took me forever and a day... I think I owe about $100 and then everything will be paid off.

talking to husbands about money

Hi, Donna,

Good job!

If I remember right your husband had the money for your purchases but you were putting them on the credit card instead of asking him for money.
You were sort of saving yourself from having to have a money conversation -- and I understand that soooooooo well. My hubby and I see money and purchases differently.

It's hard to live with someone with a different attitude about money. And it is very difficult to work up the energy to have a conversation about money.

It sounds like you got through something you were dreading for a while. Was it easier than you thought?

Thanks Mari, Pam, Bizi, Koala, and the others

No honestly it wasn't easier than I thought it would be. He is still reeling
from the amounts. But I honestly knew he would be. Yesterday it went
as far as. When a call came in for my debit card to have some charges
confirmed he was mad I wasn't wanting him and the dogs to be in
the room.

Even he doesn't know how to stay quiet so I can hear. Its really hard to
explain. But he had taken the call, and I was returning, and he had said.
It was a lafayette bank. SO I knew it had to be my debit card.

So this I told him, but he wasn't listening. Had a fight kind of. So had
even more talk about how it was making me feel. To keep having this
come up. Anyway its stopping I think. Even told him about the two
that are just there today. One is my emergency one, which he decided
I can keep.

Real relief of my back just for a few months, I need one till I have enough
money to put on debit card each time I stay in a motel for business.
I get reimbursed after stay. So its not like I will have any charges
if I pay it off right away. Which within two or three months that can
happen now.

The other one I'm not sure where it came from, but it will be gone within
5 months. Its got 1,000 on it. So its going to take me a little while.

But he is okay with those two. So we are okay. And not fighting now.

I'm finally seeing the light. It was necessary because before very long
its very much possible he will get laid off. And he has lots to do so
its his thoughts laid off for a few months is good.

Not with the big credit cards though.
