undiagnosed illness

Being new to this wonderful site where we can ask for help or information, I thank Loretta. As of today I am so sick the coughing is horrible, I plan to call the infectious disease doc in the morning. I am frightened, I'll admit. To be this sick with this much pain and having six doctors say 'they don't know' makes you wonder where you came from - am I sooooo different from others who are sick. I still don't understand exactly how to put this info on the web, hopefully this message will get through. I've never know that life could be quite this scary and I'm not a cowardly man, just really confused at this point. Can my newly discovered unruptured brain anyeursm be part or all of my problem. My wife keeps going back to 'something I picked up in Mexico' who knows? Life is tough, we don't know how tough till we get sick, in this together, Don

Welcome to NeuroTalk Don39Driver. It sounds like you've already been through a lot with that unruptured brain anyeursm, let alone picking up something else that's probably totally unrelated.

It concerns me that you're showing signs of a possible virus after being in Mexico. It might be a good idea to ring the Swine Flu hotline in the morning, just in case.

Please let us know how you get on, and don't hesitate if any of us can help you with anything.

I look forward to seeing you around our forums. :)

Don-
I am so sorry for the pain you are going through. I've been there. It can seem absolutely incredible that the doctors can't diagnose you. Assuming you are at a major health center, preferably one associated with a medical school, we have to know your doctors are good. In fact, I came to the conclusion that I would only go to a doctor who would say "I don't know." It is better to be treated by someone who recognizes their limitations and will strive to find answers than by someone with a god complex who makes the situation fit his 'diagnosis.' It will take time.

On the bright side, your getting sick caught the brain aneurysm before it did anything. From what symptoms you shared, it seems like you have developed reactive arthritis in response to the initial infection. You don't mention what meds you were put on to help with your eyes' inflammation but it was probably a steroid base. As they give us meds to help with our autoimmune system going into overdrive, it can be a balancing act and suddenly the autoimmune system can act suppressed as it is still trying to fight off the infection - which probably grew stronger during this.

Best wishes for strength,
Noreen
