Deja vous
Didn't we just do this last year?
DD19 left this morning for Colorado (from KS), with 3 friends (total of 2 guys, 2 girls). Not sure exactly how far where they were going was from here; over 500 miles. (Last summer, she went on a "senior trip" to CO with 5 friends, mostly different kids. There was a breakdown of our van, some anxious moments, and worries about possible difficult decisions. But, it ended with a happy ending. See details here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=49466) She called today, about 100 miles before they reached Denver. Her car broke down. Is probably the head gasket. Car is not likely worth getting it fixed. Had a two-day camping trip planned. Found a kind soul who is driving them to Denver. Will try to rent a car there. DD and her two friends are just 18 and 19, but her BF, who is the 4th person on their trip, is 24, so he should be old enough for a car rental place to rent to him. At this point, if things go as currently planned, they are still planning to go through with their camping plans. Will likely cost them a fortune, and DH will probably have to drive out to CO and tow the car back. Will update you when I know more. ~ Faith |
Sheesh, Faith, makes me so glad that my Kids are grown and out of that death defying faze of their lives..
I'll pray all turns out OK for DD and her friends. Hugs for Mom and Dad..:hug: |
Made it to Denver. Rented a car.
They plan to continue with camping plans. Will return the car to Denver. After that, we'll see. DH will probably have to go pick up them and the car and tow it home. ~ Faith |
DD and friends arranged to rent a car, but that fell through, as they will only accept payment from licensed driver over 21, and BF's credit card didn't go through. (Can't figure that one out. If they have a 24 y.o. licensed driver available to drive, and a 19 y.o. willing and able to pay, why won't they take DD's money?)
The 4 friends are staying the night at a motel in Denver. ~ Faith |
Wow Faith, sorry to hear that. Rental places require the credit card in case the car is messed up when it comes back or if it doesn't. I asked once when we rented a car.
What are the plans now? Are they coming home? |

Yeah. My DD had a credit card that she wanted to use, but they wouldn't take hers. Said they had to use a credit card of a licensed driver tha was over 21. Don't know why. Her money is just as good as his, even though she's not over 21. Anyways, got his credit card figured out today. They've just rented a car, and plan to drive out to the campgrounds. My DH will drive out to Denver (500 miles) after work tomorrow, stay in Denver for the night, and drive them back and tow the car back Saturday. ~ Faith |
The travelers are home. They said that the trip was worth it, in spite of the troubles.
DH borrowed his brother's extended cab pick up, and someone else's car dolly to pick them up and tow the car home. He decided to sleep in the pick-up in the parking lot of a shopping center that had a 24-hour grocery store in Denver. But, said it wasn't very comfortable. Thanks for your interest and concerns. ~ Faith |
Glad everyone is home safe and sound.

I suspect, that my fairly independent 19 y.o. did not want to rely on her dad when she was trying to make a good impression on her 24 y.o. BF. Although, BF couldn't solve their problem, either. Lol! Update on DD's car. Looks like it was not a major problem with the head gasket. DH put some additive in, and it seems to be running fine. Wish someone would've tried that in CO, so he didn't have to go all the way out there to get them and tow the car home! ~ Faith |
