folders with attitude
My folders with files are all on my desktop. I've been putting them there for safe keeping. My desktop is getting over run with files such as IMAGES. ART. PICTURES etc. I know there is a way to move these into one folder, I just don't know how to do it. Thank you, Doodle bug7

Do you mean you have icons for them?
I made a folder for myself long ago, since we all share the computer. I called it "mom's stuff". I put all my things in there. I have some sub folders now within it. You can open Explorer (not internet explorer) and create a new file, and just click and drag the old stuff into it. You can create an icon for your new folder at the same time. Call it whatever you like that you remember easily. The new folder will go to left of the screen, and you then open "desktop" while still in Explorer and click and drag the files you want to move into it. You hold the left click button down, on the file name, keeping the button down, you just move it across the screen into the new folder. Once you do it, you'll see it is easy. Once you put the files there, and you have icons all over your wallpaper still, you can delete those and your opening page will be clear. I find this hard to describe...here is a link to help: http://www.geekgirls.com/absolute_beginners_06.htm I am sure Jo will be along soon and she is a whiz with this stuff and most likely can explain it better than I. ;) |
ah how sweet:o
The way i do it is right click on the desktop go down to New / then folder click that and just put a short name to it. Then just drag you icons/files to the folder and it will tidy the desktop up for you. You can then open that and make folders the same way inside of that folder, if you want to organize it more. you can also sort the files by going to View - go down to - Arrange Icons by - name , size, type modified .. I have only 3 folder icons on my desktop - Downloads, Misc and shared pics. update- mrsD's link had that tip on #4 and for moving a lot of files/icons tip #3 |
Windows comes with areas for storing Documents, Pictures, movies, music etc, already set up, you use those at all?
