anesthesia/intubation
 

Has anyone out there with sensory peripheral neuropathy had difficulty with being administered general anesthesia because of intubation problems? Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had such experiences....I'm now facing back surgery and obviously the good old epidural won't do this time.....I'm going to see a specialist, but would like to hear if anyone has had similar problems. Thank you

I've had general 2 times without complications.

I was intubated for my laparoscopic gall bladder surgery, with no issues. And I have nearly half my digestive system missing and Crohn's to boot!

Proven a problem
 

At the onset of my neuropathy I also had a horrific cough start, which unfortunately over time has proven to be related to the neuropathy. Along with the cough is an inability to intubate me. They have tried on two seperate occassions, and I failed. Last week had epidural and once again it proved to be the answer but the anesthesiologist advised me that a different course would have to be taken for my next procedure. I'm afraid right now...and was hoping to hear from someone with the same problem....but that's okay. Onward......thank you for your responses.

Last month I had surgery that is usually done with a spinal block however the anesthesiologist was concerned about my PM and went with the general anesthesiology ( I have been put under 4 times since having PN and cannot count back past 97). Do you suffer from GERD please let us know the procedure. Good Luck

.....it's not GERD. There are a small minority of people who when they contact sensory neuropathy......have neuropathy of the recurrent laryngeal nerve or superior laryneal neave (see Dr. Lee B Woo). I have this, in addition to the peripheral nerve damage. I need back surgery due to stenosis. All other treatments have failed to achieve good results. It's okay though.....it will get done, and.....I may have one more scar on my throat.....but scarves are a good thing ......and I'll be able to tap dance again......:)
