Ok, who sprinkled fever blister dust on me?

Good lord, I havent had a fever blister since I was a kid! I woke up this morning, and I have a honking one! Just in time for my MRI visit tomorrow. Maybe that will give me something to concentrate on.

I have been having bad night sweats, and night fevers. I am told that it may be the copaxone, or it may be the MS. I dont have a UTI, or URI as I was just at the MD, and its a part of my routine to get a urine dip to be sure. I did wake in the middle of the night feeling like I was on fire, and yet drenched in sweat.

Great, now I look like a hooker.:o:p

I keep getting fever blisters and I am not on any meds or have any stress in my life except those!!

I have had them at least two or three times a year since I don't remember when. Although there are expensive meds for them the healing time is the same...at least a week.:(

Until it heals; I dont go outside the house except on the patio. DH does the shopping and errands because I am too embarrassed to be in public.

Anyone have any ideas on what can be done to prevent these?

I used to get them quite often. Haven't had one in some time now.....now that I've said that I'm sure one will pop up!

I hear the nutritional suppliment Llysine does good things. if you feel one coming on, take one. The abbreva stuff really does work, expensive at $20 a tiny tube, but oh so worth it. My neice gets them all the time, and swears by L lysine stuff. I havent had one since I was a kid, so I have no clue myself, other than the whole derailed train of thoughts that now everyone at the big city hospital will be staring at my lip. :o

Abreva works best if you start using it at the first sign of a fever blister developing. Usually there's a tingling feeling at the site the blister will appear. If you begin using Abreva as soon as the tingling sensation starts you can usually cut down the duration of the blister by a few days.

I get fever blisters. Not as much anymore but I do get them.

I took Llysine for a while. I cannot remember if it really worked.

What does keep it from getting bad is simply ice. I wrap a cube of ice in a paper towel and keep the area numb. When my blister first appears, it is a pain, swelling and hot.

Somehow the ice either makes it go away or makes it smaller or makes the duration of the blister seem shorter.

This only works in the first 48 hours before it really starts to form.

Ice can't hurt and sure is cheap.:) Maybe it will work for you.

I must have had a whopper of a fever last night, as I woke up burning up, and drenched in sweat. I didnt have any tingle of my lip, but when I woke up, WOW! I had a monster on my lower lip. No tingle still, just a big ol honking hooker sore. A friend told me that Copaxone causes Herpes, and was teasing me that I had it now. I looked it up, and dangit if herpes wasnt one of the side effects. its really rare, but its there. now, you know exactly where my mind went.

The abbreva is helping, and it looks a whole bunch better than it did. Not touching it helps. I didnt get any L lysine. I never even thought of it when I was at the store.

Another comical day in the life of being me. :D

I use the lysine on a regular basis and swear by it. There is also a lysine lip blam that works and it has a spf in it too!

Fever blisters (cold sores)

At the first sign of any tingling I put a little Blistex on the spot. That usually stops it from developing. They can be miserable. And they are contagious. So you shouldn't be kissing anyone anywhere, etc.:D And they can be spread by your fingers, etc. They are Herpes but a different kind.

Lots of things can trigger them. I probably got one way back when I was in school. Click on and review the whole page:

As a nurse, I learned long ago not to touch my face, unless I am washing it. it was a hard habit to break. I have been keeping my hands very clean, and the DH says EWWW! run away! gross! (picture him acting like he is 10 and asked to kiss a girl for the first time. Cooties!) I wouldnt kiss him anyway, I wouldnt risk passing this crap on.

Went out for some home made ice cream at the local stop, and a neighbor wanted to eat some ice cream off my spoon. I had her go to the counter, and get a fresh spoon, and pick off the uneaten side of my sundae. I can never eat a whole one anyway, so she got to eat off a clean side. I was shocked that she would even consider using my spoon. Even if I didnt have this sore, I wouldnt share spoons with the lady! yick!

It looks tons better, and isnt quite as sore. I felt like someone had smashed out their cigarette on my lip. Have you ever stepped on a lit cigarette? it HURTS! As the day has marched by, and I have been taking good care of my new friend, it is getting smaller, and going away.

Thanks for helping me laugh at my new friend.
