my father in law...send positive thoughts

We have been staying at my in laws for our vacation.
tuesday my fil woke up in severe pain in right abdomen area...the ambulance came and took him in to the er and discovered he had a considerable size kidney stone...6mm. they gave him morphine in the er for his pain, 2 doses and phenergan for nausea and tylenol for his back pain in general. they reeturned home about 6 hours later and he slept for nearly18 hours it wiped him out, when he finally woke up he was disoriented and has been this way ever since, the doctors office said it could take 3 days to get the morphine out of his system.
It is hard on his wife watching him have conversations with people who are not there and then not making any sense. He will travel to his doctors office tomorrow via ambulance to be examined and then will have lithotrypsy to break up the kidney stones...on monday.
We were going to leave on sunday but am unsure now.
He is not eating, we have been able to get himto drink some yogurt smoothies and drink a bit of water with his meds. he also has a UTI which can also help to explain the confusion.

Beth,

I'm sorry to hear that your father-in-law has had so much going on health wise and that he's not himself. I will say a prayer for him and the family.

Did they put him Cipro or Levaquin for the UTI?

This family of drugs in high dose causes CNS confusion and worse (perhaps seizures) in the elderly.

Combined with morphine or other drugs it can be serious.

Hope all resolves well... but be careful.

So sorry Beth, I can imagine how concerned you all are. I am worried though because after 18 hours the med from the hospital should have been out of the system. If he is not better tomorrow I would go be really concerned there may be something else going on too. The fever if he has one could make him talk like that too.

My prayers are sent,
di
