Have a wonderful vacation Mrs. D!

Hope you can relax, recharge and enjoy yourselves tremendously! We will miss you.

Oh, Thank you Judy... that is really sweet of you to make a post.

I always come back restored, tanned and rested.

With the weather so cold this season it is nice here at home.
But up there it might be COLD... turning a "vacation" into a "survivor" episode! LOL

Will miss you but hope you get some relaxing time. I think I recall you doing this last year. Do you have a cottage or something?Have fun and take care

mrsD 07-18-2009 11:29 AM

yes, Daniella...

A family home in the UP of Mich. on an island.

Long drive...been doing it almost every year since have been married... 41yrs. Did our honeymoon up there! I only missed summers while hubby was in the army during Vietnam.

We can do more time now, so I stay a long time. Most I've stayed is 3 months. This year it will be 7 weeks.
3months can be cold...June can be very cold up there, so I don't miss that anymore. My son used to come with me when he was in high school and early college. As soon as he started working more he couldn't come to help me, anymore. We painted all one summer, and also did rock/masonry repair another summer.
It is too hard now for me to stay alone...most I will stay is 10 days alone. If the propane burner on the big frig goes out I can't get at it anymore with my leg injury. Propane frigs are very tricky to maintain, and so is the water pump. Mostly "guy" things you know ;) I have fixed things in the past, but it wasn't easy by myself! I don't like to run the boat alone either, because when it is rough I can't handle it. It won't be long when age/illness prevents us from going up there. Not a good place to be for a 911 emergency either!

Drop off some of the cool air in GA when you send it to Chemar!

I hope you have a restful, peaceful vacation. Your house sounds wonderful....wish I had a place like that to retreat to.

It all sounds wonderful mrsD, and I'm another who'll look forward to seeing your photos. :)

I used to do something similar many years ago when we owned a holiday home on the beach. We'd pack up and move there in December, and not go back home until the end of February or the beginning of March. It was so relaxing and also a good way to "recharge our batteries". You have to remember that our seasons are opposite to your's, so those are our summer months.

Some people here use gas in their holiday homes for refridgeration and cooking, although they're in the minority. If electricity isn't available for some reason, they use generators to make their own. Do you have one of those as well for your lighting, etc? Sorry if I'm being nosey, but....... :D
