Road trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 

OK, So, here's the deal. After many years without a vacation I am taking a road trip. I am leaving next Sunday, July 26th to head northeast to vacation on my favorite place on Earth.

My parents winter in Arizona and summer in Wisconsin on a small island named "Washington Island" It is at the end of the peninsula above Green Bay and Milwaukee. The Island is a rare find. There are no traffic lights, a year round population of 300 and summer population of 3000. No fast food restaurants allowed, a real Mayberry. I spent every one of my summers up there growing up. My parents have a lakefront home there and I am very excited to go.

Below is my map of intended travel. My dog, Morgan, is going with me in Felix (my car). Kyle, my nephew went with my parents in May and is working on island this summer. His best friend, Trevor is going with me and then when I leave I am dropping Kyle and Trevor at Kyles paternal grandparents home in Minneapolis Mn. and I am driving home with Morgan.

Projected time is a week to get there, two weeks there and a week to get home. I will be posting many pic's and comments throughout. If any of you are near my route, let me know, meet up with me and lets have a lunch/dinner.

Looks like a fun time for you. I have driven the route from Oklahoma to Chicago many times. You will see a lot of corn and in some areas beautiful mountain scenery.

I'm a little too far south for that route, but I hope you have a great time! I use to love road trips until we had to move across country 7 times! Now my folks are lucky to see me once a year and I only live 220 miles away :D.

If you drive up north Interstate 39 in Illinois there are a bunch of us in the area.

ah drat. you said northeast, and I got all happy. I am waaaay over to the east though.

Taffy, I will be in Washington in October for a week or so, for the birth of my granddaughter. I am scheduled to arrive on the 10th and stay until ?? the baby is due on the 14th. She lives in Marysville.

A baby? Lucky! Oh...I am pretty close...if you call 2 hours close. I do.;)

Illinois???? I'm close to the IA/IL border. Make it happen!

First Leg
 

Ok, I am really getting excited. Not only am I getting my first vacation in years, but I am going to Heaven on Earth. I sure hope to met a couple of you while on my trek.

Here's a close up of my first leg. I pushed the trip one day back. First leg is Phoenix, AZ. to just East of Alb. N.M.

(note) the dark purple line is my way out,the light purple (coming down from Denver is my return home route.

Have a great and safe trip! When you get home, maybe those of us in the Phoenix area should get together for lunch.

NOPE, I am here, although here isn't Phoenix anymore, its Albuquerque NM. Made it in 6h 55 min car running time, not including about an hour for Morgan's potty breaks and lunch. Smooth sailing so far. 453 miles today. ONE TANK OF GAS!!! yahoo. love 32 mpg. Tomorrow is the long day of the trek, 629 miles to Tulsa, OK.

I should be online until about 9, it's 6:45 now.

9 hours in the car, 650 miles, and we are in Tulsa. Morgan is just happy to be out of the car. Seems I will be sharing a bed with him yet again.

Tomorrow goal, who knows at this point-as far as we can get.

That is really good time for that amount of miles!

Ok, so we are ON WASHINGTON ISLAND. We actually drove from Tulsa OK at 6am and arrived in my childhood home of Woodstock Il. at 6:45 last night, 800 miles give or take a few. I had to rush because I had written to the people who bought my childhood home and they were willing to let me come tour it again after 25 years. It was amazing. Totally took me back to my childhood.

So, we bedded down at the Woodstock Day's inn at 8pm woke up at 1:30am this morning and drove the final 5 1/2 hours to make the first ferry at 7:45am, surprised everyone and came in asking "where's breakfast" I am tired now but plan to post more pic's and write more tomorrow (Friday)

First time I've seen 68 degrees at 3pm in 10 years. I LOVE it.

Now that is the perfect temp!
