Tennis Balls for PT use...

My PT wanted me to get two tennis balls to use as massage for my scapula area, and upper back.
She said to tape them together...what is the best tape for this? Also won't that make them harder to move/roll??

paper tape

i would think paper tape would be good, cause it's breathable.

I just used one - either against a wall or down on the floor.

works great for finding those trigger points too.

I also use a foam roller, or a rolled up towel ( a cylinder shape), inflatable exercise ball. and any other ball sizes that might work for massaging/rolling on etc

in our sticky thread there are some saved links to various videos on therapy, massage, posture, stretching...

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread84.html

post #18 has the video links
those are from 2007 search but the links will most likely take you to a page where you can find more of the same & newer ones.

Jo*mar is so resourceful. Must be doing early morning research (2:47 a.m.)

My therapist got me a Miracle Ball set for Xmas.

I also use a TheraCane...

...mine looks like the peppermint cane.

I noticed a still point inducer - firm

http://www.amazon.com/Bodyback-com-S...t-Inducer-Firm. That may be the effect your therapist is trying to achieve for your trigger points and things.

There's so many things I've tried. I've learned to grade things as a positive or a negative.

I encourage you to try many things.

Happy releasing to you, my friend.

LOL - I'm on the west coast - it was 11:47 pm:D

I did buy a Pressure Pointer - I really like the website chart they have for locating trigger points.
Now it sits in my closet because tennis balls, pet balls or golf balls are actually simpler to use. or just about anything that will fit where the pesky trigger points are.

I don' find I am coordinated enough for two balls. One works just as great.

Gee, that gives me an idea though, I saw those wooden kneading balls on a handle. I use to have dd or dh rub it all over.
First I got my shower, then biofreeze, then the wooden rub out.

The tennis ball and rub against the wall is a daily thing like back scratching the door frame
You should hear some moans and groans I can get out from the relief.

IOh, I had a trigger point done on the bunches of humps in the scap/ shoulder humps. and that one worked GREAT. The humps I had on top of the shoulders are gone and the terrible pain above scapula is nearly gone.

I Ice my neck and the hump on the upper back and that helps spasms too.

Wow so much info...thanks!!Anyone suggests a good heat pad w/ vibration??I get alot of my stuff from amazon...

Jomar 07-22-2009 03:03 PM

They don't have massage action, but the Infrared heating pads are said to penetrate deeper into the tissue. I believe it from my experience with both kinds.
I can feel a more lasting effect when I use my infrared heat pad vs the regular type pad.
Plus the infrared helps rid the toxins from the body at the cellular level.

I found a thread we had from 08 -
